Question about trailer brake

Here's a link to a discount source for an OEM Ford integrated trailer brake controller (ITBC), part number FORD 9L3Z-2C006-A

Ask your dealer to match that dealer's price.

When I added the controller to my truck last spring the part was just shy of $150 US. I was able to find a local dealer that would do it at their hourly rate of $90. Other dealers wanted a flat fee of $95-$145 to install the controller and/or activate. In my case the tech only took 30 minutes and that was all they billed. So it pays to look around.
edit:
A quick thought. Is it worth crossing the bridge to get the part in the US?

Yep, my bad. Ford parts says the correct part number for a 2016 is FL3Z19H332A, but when you look that one up in Autonation White Bear Lake it says that is an obsolete part number.

So I guess the next step is to call a Ford parts source and have them determine the correct part number.

I just installed PN GL3Z-2C006-CA - what I believe is the current part number - in my '16 that I got from a Ford dealer selling it on ebay (about $89 shipped). I installed it myself and activated it with Forescan.

On my last truck, I went for the after market controller. On this truck, I have the factory installed and it is much better (and it isn't sticking out from under the dash although you lose a convenient cell phone storage slot in the dash).
If you do go after market, your truck should have come with a brake controller cable harness (in the glove compartment with the manuals). Give this to the installer or you will end up paying for one.

A local Detroit dealer has one for $108 USD which is a steal compare to the Canadian dealer I got my truck from. The funny thing, when parts transferred me to service to price the install, the guy said he does not even know if that's something they can install.

There was a change to the 2015's TBC due to the early ones failing and locking up the trailer brakes. They also would smell like something burnt in the unit. Ford came out with a corrected version under a new part number but at least last spring there was the normal sup'ed by info in the parts diagrams. Th part number I received was FL3Z19H332AB. Here is a link:

For any newbees wondering why we're often linking to the Ford dealer above, it's because their name used to be Tousley Ford Parts before mega-dealer AutoNation bought them out, and Tousley Ford Parts was a big supporter of Ford and RV forums on the internet. Plus they have excellent customer service and good discount prices and a relatively easy to use website. AutoNation was smart enough to retain the excellent OEM parts business that Tousley had built up, by continuing to use the old link to TousleyFordParts.com
www.TousleyFordParts.com
So today if you click on that link to Tousley Ford Parts, you will automagically be taken to AutoNation White Bear Lake. Tousley Ford parts is easier for me to remember and type than parts.autonationfordwhitebearlake, so when I want to look up a discounted OEM Ford part, I usually enter the old link to TousleyFordParts.
