Question about factory trans cooler.

Question about factory trans cooler.
I have a 2013 F150 Supercrew, 4x4, V8 5.0, 6 speed transmission. It is new to me by the way. I love the trans temp display. Don't love how it reads anywhere between 170 - 190 F , in zero degree weather and not towing. Granted this is in stop and go traffic but still, seems kind of hot.
My truck has the towing package , hitch, brake controller , trans cooler etc. I had a B&M on my Chevy SIlverado and temps hardly ever reached 150F even when towing. Does the Ford trans cooler have a restrictor or something that doesn't allow fluid to flow through it unless it reaches a certain temp? I know the BM cooler will not allow really cold fluid to flow through it.
I would like to see if something can be done to make the cooler more effecient like maybe adding a fan. Maybe adding another aux cooler in line as well. I read somewhere that it isn't adviseable to replace to factory cooler with an aftermarket.
I believe the Tow/haul button keeps the Torque convertor from locking in and out so maybe when towing it won't get as hot as it does just driving around town.
Has anybody done anything different with their stock trans cooler and if so, how was the process. Thanks

I have read there is a thermostat to keep the trans in a certain temp range, mine runs any where from 180's -190's depending on out side temps and how far I drive it,towing in hot weather I have seen 207 or so for a very short time on a long hill pulling 7K or so

Perfectly normal for 2011-up F-150.
Heat over 225° is the tranny killer, but tranny temp less than about 210° is fine. When towing in hot weather and in hills or mountain passes, you should see as high as about 220°. 225° is the red line, so don't allow more than that.

Watch that tranny temp, and if fit never gets over 225° then you're in good shape. If you see over 225° more often than once in a blue moon, then maybe worry about adding tranny cooling capacity. But if you never see over 225°, then you're good to go.
The unlocked torque converter combined with speed less than about 45 MPH can get the ATF hot enough to overheat the ATF. Keep your eye on both your tranny temp gauges when poking along with a heavy trailer. Use 225° as the red line on the digital gauge. On the idiot gauge, if it ever jumps from the normal zone to the yellow zone, that's too hot, so check your digital gauge.
