Default Power pin in trailer plug (2012 XLT)

My travel trailer dealer is telling me that the 'power pin' in the trailer hitch plug is not hot on my F150. Does anyone know if this is true, and whether it can be made hot with a fuse?

The reason I'm asking is that apparently my trailer battery is not charging while we're driving and I thought it would be when plugged into the truck.

My Ridgeline truck had a similar setup and I had to add a jumper in the fuse block to make that pin hot on their standard hitch plug.

thanks

Did your truck come with a trailer brake control harness adapter? Mine came with both a relay and a fuse that needed installed in the underhood fusebox.

My truck has the max tow package. It already had the hitch and everything installed.

You should have received a bag with a fuse, relay, and instructions in it. Basically you add the fuse and relay to the under hood fuse block and voila! - 12V to the trailer.

As stated above look in the glove box or door cubbys you should find a bag with a relay and a 30 amp fuse when installed in the power dist box over the radiater it will power up the trailer plug when the ignition is on. If you cant find it then you need to buy a relay and fuse at most any parts store.
Your Rv dealer should know this and have the parts. as a side note you can just put a short jumper wire in place of the relay and the plug will be hot even with the ignition off

I have mixed feelings about that. GM's are wired always-hot, and while it's nice to have a 12V source on the rear of the truck there's the off-chance of running your truck battery down.

Did your dealer try to check the power with the key on or off? My F-150 only has power to it when the truck is running, my F-250 has it whether it is running or not.

Thanks everyone. Found the fuse and relay- worked great! Don't understand why it's not installed from the factory. I would think Fords liability is the same if they provide the parts and let you install them
