Finally got my new truck. 2017 Lariat 500a HDPP with twin moonroof and 40-40/console, two options not available in the US. Payload, 2284, only 15# off my calculations that would have put it at 2299#.

I take it that was a special order. Rare build indeed. I tried to find a 501a, 36 gallon tank, LB Screw, with tow package and tailgate step. Simple, practical, has what I need and would have a decent payload.

Every one I found had moonroof, nav, or other side options I didn't want that took up payload. I would have ordered the exact truck if I had the time and a spare truck to drive.

OK I'm confused. My 14 had a 1470# payload, and the rear axle was 4050# GAWR. My 16 has 1583# payload and only a 3800# GAWR.

So my 14 had a higher axle rating with lower payload, had few options on it too, and my 16 which is pretty much loaded up, had a lower axle rating and higher payload.

due to the use of the aluminum body your 16 would also have a lower GVWR so the axle rating can be dropped highest GVWR you can get on 15 up is 7850 I believe 14 under it was somewhere around 8200 GVWR

The 14 was 7100# the 16 is 7000#. Why not just stick with the 4050# axle? Makes me wonder if they are the same axle, and just using lower numbers to sell Max tow and HDPP.

Maybe some day I will get under it and check the tag and compare to someone with max tow.

When Ford went to aluminum they reduced the GVWR, the axle rating and the wheel ratings. As far as I know nothing changed in the real world. They just made the numbers up.
Well they did remove the 7 lug wheels from the HDPP.

Well my HDPP definitely has a different axle. GVW is 8,200 lb.
I envy y'all Al guys.
