Yeah, but your Platinum has all kinds of nice gadgets!

Nice user-name by the way, not so many powder days here in the East.

Is your truck a SuperCrew?

Got this email from Ford prior to purchasing my truck (I made them put this data in writing) because no where on their website does it show this data all together, or the towing capacity of 11,100 anywhere.

[2016 F150 XLT SCREW 5.0L, 3.31 w/ ELD, Integrated Trailer Brake & Tow Package, Sport Package and 302A]

Dear Mr. XXXX,

Thank you for chatting with us on August 13, 2016 regarding the 2016 F-150 XLT. We are following up with you because we have received a response to your question from our Brand Manager.

The GCWR is listed at 14,200 lbs., the towing capacity is 9,100 lbs., the GVWR is 6,800 lbs., and the total payload is 2,160 lbs. Finally, if you do select the Trailer Tow Package then the maximum towing amount will be set at 11,100 lbs.

If you have any further questions, our Build & Price team is available Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. ET to assist you. Please visit us online at www.ford.com

Thank you for contacting Ford Motor Company.

Sincerely,

Michael

You will be sorely disappointed.

Those numbers are max possible and without options (max tow does not even appear to be available with the 5.0 but the maximum towing capacity is 10,100 (so probably a typo by him) with 3.55's, 5.0, 4x2, screw)

Also, for 2016 they list lower tow ratings if you have the sport package...that 9,100lb listed is 6,900lb if you have the sport package.

The only thing missing from their website is payload and they list that maximum 'when properly equipped', they just don't list payload for every possible configuration of options.

Seems to me you are setting yourself up for failure (or to get really pissy at someone). That email won't help you one bit though.

Well, they had the VIN of the specific truck that I was asking about, and referenced it in our "chat script." The items you mention above, especially about the sport package and reduced towing capacity, is why I asked. Also, the 5.0L has only one tow package option...tow package. The EB's have two tow package options, tow package and max tow package. At some point, Ford has to acknowledge that they are answering specific questions with the very clear point that the decision to purchase the specific truck listed by VIN is based on the towing capacity, also as listed in our "chat." Not to say you're wrong, but what you mentioned above is specifically why I asked. PS...I don't plan on towing 10000 lbs, only around 8000 lbs. You never tow at max capacity anyway, you want at least a 20% buffer.

I seriously doubt your yellow payload value (i.e. the real number) will be 2,160#. In the set of data points in the payload spreadsheet (with 67 2015/2016 samples), the highest value for a non HD payload 2015/2016 is 2,112#...and that is for a XL SCAB (less options = less weight). The highest payload data point for a SCREW 302A sport is 2031# and that is for a 4x2. Good luck with this.

If you have the VIN, you must have looked at the truck. If you are able to, or if you even care, check the tire info (yellow sticker) inside the driver door to check on the actual payload availability for that truck.

Like I said, if you don't care about the payload, then no need to. If you do, please let us all know what it is.

As many have said, your payload will fall short even before your tow weight. Especially with a 8000 lbs trailer

Any idea why they list reduced capacities for the sport package on the 5.0? It is just an appearance package, correct?

I can't find anything that says it's any lower with the sport package. And I don't see why it would, as I also think it's just an appearance package.
