Default Plow on 2011 xlt 5.0 anyone ?

I know theres been threads on this- I know I have Epas - just wondering if anyone has thrown out the owners manual & actually put a snowplow on a 2011 or newer f150. Bought truck thinkin I could when salesman even said no problem- stupid me didnt check further into it. I see there are SnowSport, HomePlow & SnowBear plows out there. Any brave ones out there ?

Neighbor has an 03 4.6 SCAB and has a BOSS sport plow on it. He recently bought a 2011 Lariat but refuses to put a plow on it since his old truck is running strong. In my profession, I wouldn't dare put a plow on my truck, it get's torn up enough pulling trailers. However, for a single drive way, and homeowner use, go for it. A lot of companies such as Boss offer light plows for 1/2 ton trucks and SUV's. Your truck will handle it fine. Just one warning, if you plan on reselling it for a good price, do not put your truck anywhere near a plow. 3/4 & 1 tons suffer resell enough when they have been plowed with, it's horrible when its a 1/2 ton. My advice, go talk to your local outdoor equipment dealer and go from there.
Good luck!

I have a BOSS 7'6 standard duty on my 2010 SCREW. I have had it for 2 years now with no problems. The leveling kit was enough to handle it. Though I opted for a custom set of coil springs from coilsprings.com. They engineer the springs to what you are asking of the truck, taking into account your stock spring rate as a starting point. So my new springs are U code + 450 lbs and 2" increase over trim height to account for the leveling kit bushings. This set up works GREAT!

I have owned a SnowBear plow too. I had the 7' version on one of my EBs and I used it to plow 8' wide sidewalks for a commercial account. We did over 8 miles of walk at a 2" tolerance.... lots of work for ATVs = lots of profit when using a V8 EB with a 7' plow.

Snowbear is an "ok" plow. I might be saying that because I own 3 larger commercial BOSS units. Snow bear will bend before you damage your truck. I paid to straighten my SnowBear twice last year! Not too hard for a body shop with a frame rack.

I think you should be able to run a SnowBear with NO issues. They are not that heavy. The only issue is where you are turning a TON trying to back drag parking spots or other commercial plowing activity. But straight res driveways will be NO problem for your truck. Just be cautious of what you are asking of the EPAS system.

I hope this helps ...just my .02

and plowing only tears up a truck as bad as you tear it up.... it you doing the damage, not the plow. Be smart with your truck and its no where near the abuse of a trailer.

Rtreads summed it up perfectly. I highly recommend BOSS. They have a great selection and great customer service. With your needs, the plow will last you the life of the truck, and then some. The BOSS V plow we put on our F250 has proved itself time and time again. Let me put it this way. My dad ran an 81 F150, 2wd, with a straight six, and had a Meyers on it when he first started his company. He ran it 2 years commercially and did its job. That was 25 years ago. Your truck will handle just about any standard duty plow you throw at it. Just make sure your front end is up to specs, and start enjoying clearing your driveway from the heated cab of your truck.
