The ITBC Connector you need to plug in is captured on the rear of the removed Cubby. See Pic #1 below.

To charge a Camping Trailer 'House' Battery [or any other towed Battery] while driving, you need to install the 30 Amp Fuse, and the Relay provided in a Bag with the Truck. These Parts, supplied as part of the 'regular' Tow Package, were in my 2014 STX SCab Glove Box.

The Fuse and Relay mentioned go into the Fuse Box on top of the Radiator. See Pic #2.

The supplied Grey/Red Connector in Pic #3 is not used. It is used only when installing a non-Ford, Aftermarket TBC like a Tekonsha.

All the Trailer functions are isolated through the bank of Relays you see at the top of the Fuse Box Pix. This is nice. Truck Electronics are thus unaffected by Trailer 'peculiarities', if there are any...

I took these Pix, and scanned in the Ford Documentation/Schematic, intending to do a write-up here. However, there's already good Installation Vids on You Tube, as well as a prior 'Sticky' write-up here.

That's correct, the fuse and relay do not effect the operation of the TBC at all; they need to be installed only if you have a rechargeable battery for break-away brakes or other uses.

As usual, Smokey Wren gives an excellent, complete and accurate answer.

See attached 2010 window stickers to illustate.

Window sticker is a Lariat, trailer tow package standard, with the max trailer tow package option for $330, this include the TBC.

Smith 2 is also a Lariat with standard trailer tow package, but no max trailer tow option. In this case the TBC was added as a separate option for $230.

Smith 1 is an XLT, so the trailer tow package is not standard, but was purchased as an option for $350 along with the TBC for $230.

Does anybody know where the referenced "sticky" write up is located? I can't find it.

Thanks

Engineer Guy said it was a "prior" sticky, so I suspect he meant it's no longer a sticky. I can't find it either. It's probably still in the forum history, but you'd need to do a search to find it, and I'm not very good at formulating a search string.

See Post #26 here. It's not the Sticky I recall, but I hope it helps.

Thanks for all the info.

I installed the fuse and relay. I am going to have the brake controller installed and flashed this week.

Thanks again.

Default Trailer Brake Controller

Just (today)had my 2014 F-150, Screw, 2wd, tow package, flashed for the TBC.
Why I have to pay for this service is beyond me. ($115)
I purchased the TBC through Ford, a factory part, installed it myself.

Typical engineering design. Wouldn't you assume that a truck rated for GCVW of 13500#, with a 7-pin trailer connector, and a Class 3 hitch would be pulling a trailer with brakes.............DUH!!!!!!

Another complaint, 3.55 gear with a ELECTRONIC LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL, no limited slip available with this package. On a 2wd truck, an ESD is about as useful as **** on a bull.....

Done ranting........

My 2012 5.0 came with a tow package, and the brake controller. It works fine. I'm sure you could use an after market one but it will never talk to the truck properly.

Disagree. I've had several 4x2 vehicles with limited slip. My first one was a new 1965 Corvette - almost 50 years ago.. None of them were as good as my F-150 with e-locker rear axle. I don't use the e-locker often, but when I need it, it's ready and willing to lock both rear tires. That's much, much better than my last F-250 4x2 with limited slip when in slippery conditions such as light snow or ice or mud.
