Default New Truck/ Tow MPG Questions.

I had my 1st camping trip with the new truck this weekend.

The trailer is 30' 7200lb dry, 4 people, 4 kayaks, and all the gear. I pushed the tow/haul button and locked out 6th, set the cruise at 65. I got 8.7 mpg. I think that is low, but I am not sure. Other than the mpg the truck pulled it great. I was very impressed with the power. I had a 03 F250 with the 5.4 and this truck pulls much better.

Is the MPG low?

Uh...NO ...but it does look like you might need to adjust your WDH a bit more to get closer to level

That's a big trailer. Your mileage at that speed and with that trailer is quite good. Towing at 60 mph would increase your mileage quite a bit.

And I agree with the previous post that it looks like you need more pressure on those bars. V-Lites tend to have some very heavy tongue weights. You might want to check your payload capacity versus the load on your truck. That kayak rack, kayaks, passengers, thing in the bed, all come out of your payload.

I also find that not using cruise I can get almost 2 mpg better. I use it in the flats but in even slightly hilly areas no cruise will return better mileage.

No. That's about what I get when dragging my 5,000-pound TT with hills or crosswinds and the cruise set on 65 MPH. My MPG varies from about 8 MPG to 10 MPG, depending on terrain and winds.

The EcoBoost engine will pull a mountain, but when those twin turbos kick in the MPG goes way down.

I hope so. The 2003 F-250 with 5.4L gasser was a dog. About the only ones Ford sold were to fleets. Real people opted for the V-10 or diesel. and most were very happy with the power of the stock 6.8L gasser. Not so happy with the MPG of the V-10, but big engines have lousy MPG.

I'm getting about 12 mpg pulling my 20 ft boat and I also have a 5.0.

True in hilly terrain; if you let the TV gain speed downhill and scrub it off uphill.

You are towing a trailer big enough to house 20+ people in some parts of the world, I think 8mpg is pretty good!
