Racecarz -

Welcome to F150Forum.

You linked to an F-150 with the 3.5L V6 engine. I can't tell for sure if it has the EcoBoost engine. If it's the standard V6 (not EcoBoost engine), I would prefer the 3.73 axle for dragging that much trailer. 3.31 and 3.55 are simply not strong enough for dragging that much trailer. But if it's the 3.5L EcoBoost engine, the 3.31 standard axle ratio in a 4x4 is all you'll ever need for draging that trailer.

The 3.5K EcoBoost engine is unbelieveable. I have drug much heavier trailers than the one you described with my 3.15 axle ratio, with no concerns about enough power to make the next hill or pass. Power to pull the weight is not an issue with the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. Payload capacity for hauling the hitch weight along with the other weight in the truck is the issue.

RapidSpec 302a package equips that truck with an EB engine. 3.31 gears are most-likely OK. My personal preference would be a 3.55 rear end, but to each their own in terms of torque vs. MPG...

As posted earlier, I have 3.31s and tow a 7200# trailer.
Tows like a champ.
You won't have any trouble with what you have listed.

rasecarz:
Take the good deal. Currently I tow 4800# with a 2.7EB and 3.31s with no problem. I traded a 2011 3.5EB with 3.15s and after 100K miles and several trips across the country found that it had more power than I ever needed dispite the 3.15s. That beast has so much low end torque that 3.31s should work just fine. Plus when you take the trailer off and commute the 22mpg is a great side benefit.

Greatly appreciate your response Timtoolman. Very similar setup, for sure. We'll have it out next week for the maiden voyage. Still waiting for my 800 - 1000 lb bars to arrive. Noticed you are a combat vet. I completed 30 years Air Force with two Vietnam tours. Thanks for your service.

Yes I am, Thank you for yours , i Was a Navy Senior Chief. 23 yrs before being retired . We love the Minnie, It tows great Is very comfortable, we have the dual slide out, (one on each side )very very well built units. Winnibago rep gave us a few pointers, Make sure you grease your trailer hubs while rotating tires and check tire pressure and get rid of the nitrogen in them before first trip, lube your slide out put a small lock or clevis over the water heater cover tab, I guess they fall off a lot. Get a locking device for the battery too. RV dealer initially set us up with 750 lb bars but we needed the 1000 lb ones a few weeks later. Tongue weight dry plus 2-30 gal tanks , a battery and hitch was over the 750 lb tongue weight, you would think they would know this when picking up a new unit,

Default New Guy With RV Travel Trailer Towing Question

I'm pulling a Rockwood 2608WS with a 2004 F-150 5.4 V8 and a Reese Straight Line hitch, but I do miss my Pro Pride P3 which was rock solid. I also added Super Springs to the rear suspension which add a little stiffness.

Roger that on the good tips. Thanks... I tried to talk the better half into the 2351, but she was hooked on the 2401RG, so, of course, that's how we went... What kind of locking device did you get for the battery?

Thanks, Tony. Considering helper springs, but not sure if I need them yet. Seems to sit pretty nicely at this point, but it is early...
