Here's what I read in the original post:

1. Guy has job to do.
2. Attempts to procure correct equipment for the job.
3. Failing that, job still needs to get done.
4. Runs what he brung. Works out better than expected.

Pretty much how every farm around here operates. Would I go that far over? Not for more than 12 feet. Have I seen worse? Absolutely.

But I do understand a bit of the backlash over this since I, for one, have been lashed on numerous occasions for exceeding my GVWR a little bit- apparently that makes me unsafe, a hazard, and a terrorist. I'm impressed with the ability of that little truck, but the key words are "little truck". Damn Smokey, that was really beyond pushing it. All the experience in the world won't make a ****-pot full of difference if Sir Isaac Newton decides to pitch a fit.

This sounds like the worst idea ever.. Beaking ever rule of towing safely. I don't get why people do this.

I don't get why everyone is getting their panties in a twist. Every single one of you in this thread has done something unsafe and endangered yourself and others. He took precautions and got it done. Sounds like he travelled as safely as he could and I don't recall seeing him ever say hey that worked so well I am going to do it again and again and again. He reported that the ecoboost motor has enough power to pull an extremely heavy load, was it a good idea? Probably not but he isn't advoczting we should use our trucks like that either. Im glad to know the motor was up to the task. I am also glad to hear everything went well considering the circumstances.

Mainly because my wife, kids and grand kids are traveling on the same roads that he is.

Same here, but they are also traveling the roads with drunk drivers people who can't read signs literally. Not really the point of my post. People can and will do whatever they want, so we need to make sure we are paying as much attention as we can while driving as well as teaching our loved ones to do the same. My .02 anyway....
