Default Minimum needed to Tow Aluminum Bass Boat

All,

I'm new to the whole arena of towing and trucks and have some basic questions. I'm looking to buy a used F-150 w/ crew cab (probably in the 2004-2010 range) in order to haul an aluminum bass boat that will have a total package weight of around 2200 lbs (Tracker 175 Txw).

What would be the minimum specs I need to look for in a used F-150 to haul this boat comfortably?

1. Would a V6 (4.2L Essex V6, 11th Generation) or (3.7 L Ti-VCT V6, 12th Generation) be acceptable or would I really need to look for a V8?

2. I would definitely want to get a hitch bolted to the frame - does that come standard with most F-150s? If the trailer plug is not installed, is that pretty easily added?

3. Is there any need to find a truck with the optional towing package for this type of load?

Thanks for your advice.

My brother tows this camper with a 2011 3.7l SCREW with no problem. I'd say it would tow your boat just fine.

08 f150 4.2 V6.... 18foot fiberglass Cajun bassboat..150hp Merc,25 gallons of fuel 3 12volt batterys,fully loaded bass boat... The 4.2 pulls it like nothing back there.

I pull that boat or this truck twice a week almost every week....It pulls the boat like no other... The race truck, it has a time with sometimes lol

Even a Ranger would be enough.

A ford focus will pull that boat. If the vehicle you buy does not already have a hitch or the wiring, you can have a shop add that afterwards....for a price of course.

We use my girlfriend's 2013 Escape Ecoboost to pull our 1977 Crestliner 15' fiberglass boat so with any f150 you should be fine

One thing to keep in mind is "2 foot itis" so you might want to think about what will tow your existing boat, and the "next" boat. On the newer F150's one advantage of getting a factory tow package of some kind is the wiring is already done for you, on my 2010, it had a factory 4 wire, so I just had to find the connection and I was able to plug a 7 wire into it. As far as adding a frame mounted hitch, that is about the easiest mod you can make to a truck, usually 4 to 6 bolts...... I got mine off etrailer with free shipping.....
