Thanks! I'll check it out, my wife and I combined are < 300 lbs and I have 2 girls under 4. When you say a lot better - is that perfectly acceptable or just marginal?

I made an edit to that post, didn't realize you put the empty weight of the camper. You need to include for clothes, propane, water, kitchen supplies, and all those wonderful things you keep in the camper. The number fully load, according to that site is 8230 looking. That is the max weight of the trailer fully loaded. It is better to be conservative if you can.

They have hitch weight, though I am assuming that is based of the empty weight. That makes the weight on the hitch a little around ~12.35%
Summary:
Payload Buffer 234
Towing Buffer 1,970
Hitch Buffer 204
Trailer Payload:
Trailer 8,230
Other 0
Total 8,230
Vehicle Payload:
People 550
Gear 0
Other 0
Weight Dist Hitch 100
Total 650
Weight on Hitch: 12.35%
According to calculations it is in within spec, though that is assuming you have the same 1900 payload as the other guy. While according to my calculations it should be in spec, this is just theory and also based on your trailer being loaded out to it's max load. I doubt it would be that fully loaded, though at the same time I only gave 650lbs of payload in your vehicle excluding trailer. Also keep in my kids grow.

Yeah, the 36 is a $400 option and again hard to find on lots.
I agree, I am expecting a call back this afternoon from the dealer - should I ask him what the door jam payload number is?
I don't think we will ever max it out, we both work full time and just want something for long weekend trips / maybe an occasional 2-week trip to FL, but mostly hovering around the NJ / PA / MD area. The tanks would likely be empty since we would be going to full-hookup campgrounds. I'm pretty sure the numbers assume all tanks are full?

I am only a few weeks ahead of you in knowledge base, so there are a lot more people on this forum that have more experience and knowledge than I. Granted I have towed my 3500lbs boat w/ my SUV a lot, though as I can lift the tongue myself, I don't have to worry about payload or hitch weight as I do towing weight (max 4500lbs w/ 500lbs of gear/people in tow vehicle). Looking for a truck for my dad and a future vehicle for me, I wanted to do more homework. Boats are the exception as they have such low tongue weight, that is why I came here to learn.

Also, I would suggest that you get the extended range fuel tank 36 gallons. That 23 gallon tank will only get you about 175 miles with an RV on the back.

If you can stand getting a Supercab vs Super-Crew, you typically have a couple hundred extra # of payload. Every 100# of payload translates to 770# of additional weight that can be pulled (assuming 13%).
I went through this myself as my previous truck was a super cab and I liked the idea of not having to go around and open the door for my child (thus wanted a super crew)...but in end went SCAB due to a) increased payload b) 6.5' vs 5.5 bed and c) cheaper.
