We winter camped in my new Shockwave Toyhauler in late November on my deer hunt. subzero temps at night. The trailer did pretty good. But it has the "arctic package" with a fully sealed underbelly and better insulation.

We would love to but this is were ours lives for the winter time...right next to my brothers in his shed. We will get it out as soon as the weather and our work schedule permits...which can't be soon enough!

My new camper has a heated under belly which should stop my pipes from freezing.... To be on the safe side I disconnect the water supply and run out my lines at night. A little more work but I think it's totally worth it to extend the camping season.

Oh thats nice, my tanks are exposed under the camper, extended winter camping would be next to impossible with mine if I wanted to use plumbing.

My first TT had completely exposed tanks and we used it for winter camping and used our full plumbing system without issue. Camped in temp as low as minus 25C with it. No problem

We've camped in sub-freezing weather on our way down to Florida (Ohio State Parks usually have sites open with electricity, if not water, all year round).

I wrap all the drains with insulated bags as a precaution but last fall broke the fresh water drain, and couldn't drain the grey water cause the valve was frozen (worked ok once we got further south though). And this was just at -6C.

It wasn't the tanks but the exposed valves and pipes that were freezing. They really need to be in an enclosed, heated space ...

Im not sure how you managed that. Once I got the valves thawed the grey and black tanks were both full of ice chunks. Had to run hot water through the system to get the ice out totally before I ran the antifreeze through.

Not much trouble actually. First off tank heaters on the grey and black tank (120V/12V variety, altough I only used the 120V side). Secondly, surrounded the tanks with a loose fitting box made from reflectix. Lastly, used a 100W bulb in each area to heat the liquid in the tanks.

As for the valves, a combination of elbow heaters and trace tape took care of that issue.

I have hundeds of pictures of our winter camping setup and can easily fill in the blanks if need be. I see I have some doubters here.
