Lets see your campers being towed

You have to be carfull removing too much tongue weight. If you get it too low your TH will sway. Lets asume you get one that has a dry weight of 7000lbs. Add another 1000lbs for camping stuff, another 1000lbs for toys, now your at 9000lbs. Min tongue weight is 10%. Thats 900lbs.
Not only that you can take off your spare tire and put it in the back of the camper. Along with leaving the tailgate at home. That gives you another 100-150 lbs. QUOTE]
Thanks for the tips, I think I am getting close, expecially since the brochure and web site of the of the TH I am leaning torwards say two diffent things.
Brochure says hitch weight is 832lbs and dry weight is 7526 lbs
WebSite says hitch weight is 1056lbs and dry weight is 6891 lbs
Depending on which is right is going to make or break this deal.
Is that accurate? The max payload already includes 150 lbs for a driver? I am reading and all I can find is "Occupants and Cargo must not exceed". Doesn't say a 150 lb drive is not included.
Three motorcycles, probably not more than 1000 lbs in total. I do have an ATV, but don't see taking it with me to much.
But in principle, what you are all saying is I should put the majority of my payload in the rear of the TH.
I get it, thanks

Everywhere I look I see 1056lbs for the tongue weight. Not sure how much you would drop off that by loading 1000lbs on the rear, since the axles are more towards the rear. Also add another 100 for WD, plus 30lbs for propane and whatever you put in the front. Clothes and stuff. So figure 1200lbs for the tongue weight. FYI you reciever isn't rated for 1200lb tongue weight. I'm guessing it's max with WD is around 1120-30lbs. Plus at 35' thats really too long to be towing with just a 145" WB 1/2 ton, especially at around 9000lbs.

anyone else using the reese dual cam hi-perf sway control system? I was just watching the install of the system on etrailer out of boredom and noticed some things wrong(?) with my installation. This system was installed on the trailer when I got it. hitch height and pitch seems about right. My question is, in the install video they show 18" from front of tongue to front bolt of cam setup, mine is 16". They then show using approx half the thread on the cam shank to be set up on the dimple, my cam is all the way at the bottom of its bolt thread. they also show using nearly 7 links to get desired vehicle squat, i'm using 4, sometimes 3. their cam is pointing down at a good 30*+ of angle where mine is nearly flat up against the trailer frame. did the person installing the cam at 16" screw this whole equation up? As a side note, the trailer does sway a considerable amount considering it has an anti sway dual cam setup. it sways no less and no more if i just hitch it up to a standard shank and ball (this is what actually led me to looking into the install video).

That looks like a good idea, I'll have to check into that. I always wonder if everything comes out of the tank when I empty it.

Thats why a couple times a season before we head to the campground I fill my holding tank with water and a couple big bags of ice and head out. As it sloshes around in the tank ice knocks all the crud lose and when I dump it at the campground waste station it flushes all the crud out with the water. It also keeps the contacts for the tank level indicator clean. Works pretty good, it was a tip I got from the dealership where I bought my camper.

You need to go to rv.net. In their towing forum there is a big thread on how to set up your hitch. Study up and report back. Hard to say if yours is setup incorrectly or not. I can say, though, that the dual cam setup should be practically sway free when setup correctly.
