My Travel Trailer -
Just finished a week on the road with our new travel trailer. It's a 31' (35.5 tip to tail) Crossroads Longhorn w/ double slide-outs. Dry weight is about 7800 and GVW was about 8500. Towing it with a 2014 F-150 Platinum 4x4 eco-boost with the factory towing package. Did opt for the weight-distributing hitch with anti-sway. This truck pulled like a champ. NO problems what-so-ever. I must admit I am amazed and truly impressed...except for the gas mileage which averaged about 5.5-6mpg. But then I wasn't expecting much more.
All in all we drove about 1,350 miles through-out Texas including South Padre and the Texas Hill Country. Never a problem passing or even going up the hills.

Truck has the 3.55 Electronic Lock RR Axle. My brother has a 29' / 8,000 boat that he tows with 2012 Platinum rear wheel drive w/ eco-boost and he's getting about the same mileage. So sounds about par for that amount of weight.

I was towing/carrying about 8k pounds. the 2500 miles of towing came out to about 8.25mpg (assuming 18-19 mpg for the unloaded driving)
actually, about 8.5 mpg towing since my odo is off by 3.125 % due to 33" tires vs 32" stock ones.
The dominant variables in any of these towing mpg scenarios is your speed and frontal area.
drag increases linearly with the frontal area
drag increases with the square of the speed
from http://www.rmi.org/RFGraph-Horsepowe...rodynamic_drag
"Overcoming Fd requires a propulsive force rising as a cube of velocity" where Fd is the aerodynamic drag.
bottom line: When towing, speed is the worst enemy of MPG

I have 3:73 gears and Boost. I got 12.2 on my AZ to San Diego. ..plus unhooked driving. When pulling on flat it's up to 15-18.....hills it drops to (depending on grade) 6-10mpg
I think the gear set makes a difference.

Just got home from a 2 week trip to the Green Mountains in Vermont.
Got to spend some quality time with my parents who are up from Florida. There diesel Pusher makes my 33' trailer look like a pop-up!!
