RedOne impressed with your 11.2 MPG. How much does your trailer weight. What would you estimate your avg speed limit. What rear end do you have.
I have 2012 F150 Platinum Ecoboost 3.73 with Max Tow hauling a 30' Foot KZ MXT Toyhauler. Just finished up a 4800 mile trip from NC out to Utah area and back. I ran regular gas and only got 8.3 mpg. Ran Speed limit+ most of the time. Cat scales had our trailer at 7,000 pounds loaded up. We did have a lot of wind.

I'm also under the impression that 5th wheels are a bit more aerodynamic than TTs.

It will be the tongue weight of the trailer once fully loaded that will be the problem.. What is the payload on your truck?? If your trailer is 6800lbs dry then it probably has a GVWR around 8-9000lbs. If you figure 8000lbs then your tongue weight should be around 960lbs which is 12%.. Add that to the weight of your passengers plus the gear you will have in the back of the truck. Take that # and see if it's under your available payload.. The other big thing to keep an eye on is staying under your rear axle rating.. The biggest problem when towing with 1/2 tons is you usually end up exceeding the trucks GVWR and rear axle rating long before reaching the max tow rating.. Good luck,

LOL!! Your truck weighs much more than 4478lbs! Especially if it's a lariat with all the options. Look at the yellow sticker in your driver door jam. It will give you your available payload. My truck is a 2011 FX4 fully loaded with the max tow pkg and i only have 1700lbs of payload... I guessing your sticker has you in the 1200lb range for payload..

You're going too fast for good MPG and use regular gas. I don't know about others but I get better mileage (when towing) using 91 octane. On flat road I can average 12 on a good day cruising at 60 with 70PSI in my tires and my trailer is about 7600lbs.

My truck has 3.73's and I just put on Michelin LTX A/T2 LT285/55R20's. They are a load range E tire and I pumped them to 70 PSI all way around. The camper tires are also at 70 psi. Recommended to add 5-10 psi over the max in trailer tires to run above 65 mph but I usually didn't go that fast...well at least not for very long when I did run down hills.
I agree also that 5ers are a little aerodynamic and they haul easier too. No white knuckle rides for me. Set cruise and drive, checking the mirrors every few seconds or so and listen to the tunes.
