But you did your homework and you are now on the very safe side

Nice TT btw
Yeah, I know.
Some rough numbers, this is about where we are at:
- 550 - 600 lbs for 4 people with personal items (purse, phones, backpacks with some toys for kids, snacks, water, etc.)
- 600 lbs tongue weight (measured)
- 200 - 300 lbs of wood (this is NOT much wood, barely one row stacked in the bed behind the cab.
- 210 lbs for 4 bikes and the carrier. Carrier alone is 70 lbs. I measured this, the 210 lbs is not a guess.

That's 1,600 lbs right there. Now add a cooler (sometimes two), camping chairs, toys for the kids (stuff you wouldn't want in the trailer). 1,700-1,800 lbs easily. And those numbers agree with the readings we got at the scales.
As I said: I am sure many people who go camping with two kids would be surprised when they stop at the scales. In the summer we will have two trips with two extra people, that will bring us to the limit.
The kids alone probably take 300-400 lbs of the total, so if you don't have kids, you'll be a little lighter.

Thanks, we love it.
I have less margin than one would think, I am sure. My guess is 300-400 lbs probably, but that is a good thing in case we ever want to upgrade the TT, and it will be almost used up when we take two more people this summer.

I really believed you an it all make sense to me. I don't carry that much wood, my family was about 400lbs, my bike carrier was light since it was 4 fork carriers bolted to the side rails and my tongue was 200 pound less.

You just explained to a lot of people that towing a TT is more about payload than towing capacity ;-)

Cheers to that!

Maiden voyage with my new Eco. Pretty impressed so far, tows better then any gas motor I've driven.

Definitely ordering some air bags before I go too far.

Inflatable rubber bags that go between your rear axle and frame. You air them up like a tire to level the rear a bit.

RideRed, my question is why you need bags in the first place. Youre using a WDH arent you? If so its not rated for that camper or is not set up right. You have no weight on the front end of the truck, you can see that in the pic. With a properly set up WDH system you should not have to have air bags.

I have a trailer about the same size and don't need airbags. It rides level and drives great.

Not always true, the rear of these trucks are soft enough (IMO) that they still bounce around even with the weight distributed. I haven't got it completely set up as I am getting larger tires next week and adding the bags. I was anxious to see how it towed power wise. Airbags make it more stable in general, not just for looks
