Default MPG Info

A friend of mine has a 2012 Supercrew Ecoboost 3.73 Max Tow 6.5' 4x4 FX4, 33" Duratracs.

Towing a Jeep Compass (3,000lb) on a dual axle car hauler (2,500lb).
Roughly 12,000lb total GCW.

112km/h, 70mph : 6th gear : 28.0L/100km, 10.1mpg Imperial, 8.4mpg US.

106km/h, 66mph : 6th gear : 24.5L/100km, 11.5mpg Imperial, 9.6mpg US.

100km/h, 62mph : 5th gear : 22.5L/100km, 12.6mpg Imperial, 10.5mpg US.

By slowing down and keeping the truck in 5th gear by deselecting 6th gear he decreased his fuel consumption by 20%. It only adds an extra 6minutes per hour for driving.

This is probably more so true for the Ecoboost motors as it will easily maintain 6th gear, but uses a lot of fuel with the turbos. So using 5th gear isn't bad idea. From this one test anyway.

Not really the right place to post it, but I thought it may be very beneficial for you guys towing campers with the Ecoboost.

After all the research on side winders and sliding hitches, do us with 6.5 ft boxed even need all that? I have only hooked mine up, never moved it. But looking at the cleareance I'm assuming I'll only have a problem if I get myself into a crazy jack knife situation. I can hook up with tailgate down, then shut and the king pin box doesn't hit the tailgate, nor the sides. So ONLY worry is backing and busting a back window.

Just wondering if you have a slider or sidewinder?

I can't believe all the people pulling 5th wheels with an F150. That pin weight has to be hard on the rear axle of those trucks.

Anyway, they look nice.

I do have a slider but I still have to use it... I can jacknife no problem without moving the hitch. I'm waiting for my Andersen hitch to be delivered and this one doesn't even have a slider. With or without slider you have to be careful ;-)

My only concern right now is about cleareance between the top of the bed and the bottom of the trailer, it is about 5in. I would feel more comfortable with 7in IMO, I'll look at lifting the trailer a bit.

I have slip on **** mirrors but were not installed when I took the picture. We, Canadians, are lucky since we can get Maxtow with regular mirrors ;-)

For me, I can't believe all the people pulling 30ft plus TT with pin weight of 1000lbs plus on the bumper ;-)

My "ready to go" pin weight is just above 1200lbs and with my family on board and a full tank I'm still under my GVWR and RAWR. Not by much but under. With my Andersen hitch my guess is I will be under by 300lbs +. With the right setup it is very safe and within the limit of the truck.

Notice, I'm driving a SCab (200lbs less than a screw 6.5ft) and my truck is 100 leveled without airbags or any other springs helpers

Cheers
