Check the payload and if it is 1800 lbs and up you should be good with Max Tow with a little room for growth. Since I have a fiver, the next truck will be HD Payload knowing that I will have to special order it. We only had to add SuperSprings and Bilstein 4600 series HD shocks to make it a comfortable and capable towing machine. RoadMaster Active Suspension is a good alternative to SuperSprings.

No kidding. We avoid most N.P. in the Summer. Stay close to home because of the crowds.

But spend a lot of time in the Everglades in Nov-Dec and Great Smoky Mountains in Nov and March/April. Awesome parks when not crowded, but a total zoo when they are. Same up here and out West, Banff especially.

As for the compression ratio, guess I was comparing it more to diesels. Didn't realize it was high relative to gassers though. Apparently gas engines are being tested that are very, very high compression and self-ignite like diesels. No spark needed. And high mpg like the diesel with a lot less NOx and particulates. Imagine they would have a bit more engine braking power, even if only 3.5L.

Have you looked at something with a rear-slide such as the Outback 250RS? These are generally great units if you want to maintain a short enough length to fit in state and national parks, but have enough room to expand once you get there.

As for the truck, I pull a 32' 7700# TT with my MaxTow. That weight limit is at the top of my available payload. I wouldn't recommend going with anything heavier unless you can find the HD Payload optioned model.

This is exactly what we did. A Surveyor SV235RKS. Unfortunately, that model is not produced anymore. The Outback is still produced and is a very nice unit. Lots of utility in a shorter unit.

To pull it, we are looking at a Ford F-150 Ecoboost w/Max Tow, 3.73 electronic locking axle, 5.5' bed. I was thinking about getting one with HD payload but don't want the 6.5' bed and our dealer was having a hard time finding one. He was able however to find several with just MaxTow.

So, what do you think of the F-150 Ecoboost, MaxTow pulling a 28-30', under 7500# TT? I want to make sure I don't make a mistake. The wife wants a bigger TT but I want to hold it to no more than I have stated.

Thanks for your replies.

As the others have said, you will be fine with the Max tow pkg. If i can do it over again i would get the HD pkg as well as the max tow pkg. With my 32' 7500-7800lb (wet) trailer I'm right at my trucks 7700lb GVWR and that is with just a few things in the bed of the truck when ready to camp. But I do love the way this truck tows! I've actually made it through two seasons with the stock P-rated tires. I'm finally upgrading to a LT 10 ply tire for this season.

We have made our decision and today ordered a sterling grey Ford F-150 Supercrew 4x4 with Ecoboost, 6.5' bed, MaxTow, HD payload. It will be very hard waiting for its delivery; should get the vin number next week. Thanks for all of your help in my decision.

Now we can concentrate on which TT to buy; no big hurry cause the money for that won't be available till fall/winter.

I think your decision to go with the 6.5 bed and the heavy duty payload package was very insightful. it will give you many options if you should decide to go with a larger travel trailer or move into a light fifth wheel.

Since your trailer purchase won't be until the fall and not knowing where you live the Hershey Pennsylvania RV show should be a definite must-see for Motor Home/Fifth Wheel/TT overload. if you're not confused about what to purchase when you arrive you certainly will be when you leave.

Well if it hasn't changed since 2013 it will have to be a XL, XLT or Lariat. Those were the only three trim levels you could get the heavy duty payload package on.
