How to spec max tow and HD payload?
On the Ford website, is it possible to spec an F-150 with max tow and HD payload? I can't figure out the right combination to get there. I can get max tow if I select the EB, but where is HD payload?
Is it possible to get max tow and HD payload with the 5.0 and 2WD?

I'm not an expert an don't know much about mechanic but the way I understand is to compare with a bicycle.
Let say you have a 6 speeds bicycle, you would climb in 1st gear (equal 3.73) but on flat you would be better in 3rd gear (equal 3.55)

F150 available axle ratios on a 4x4 include 3.31, 3.55 and 3.73. On a 4x2, replace the 3.31 with 3.15. The "shorter legs" of the 3.73 gives the truck more leverage to drag a heavy trailer up a steep grade.
With 3.73 ratio, there are three different designs - open axle, electronic locking, and limited slip. The open axle is available only with the non-turbo 3.7L V6 engine. The E-locker is available for almost all the drive trains that do not have the HD Payload pkg. If you specify the 3.73 E-locker you'll get max tow but not HD payload. The 3.73 limited slip is a stronger axle than the e-locker, so it's required for the HD Payload package.
On Ford.com, first choose the EcoBoost engine, longest available bed for your choice of cab, and 3.73 limited slip axle. The system will automagically add both the max tow and HD payload packages to your build. Requires 6.5' bed on SuperCrew and 8' bed on SuperCab. So no, you can't have a SuperCab shorty nor a SuperCrew with 5.5' bed and still get the 3.73 LS axle with max tow and HD payload. And you cannot have High School Harry's favorite, the regular cab shorty.
As you add and delete options to your build, do not change anything that will require a different rear axle, or else you'll lose the HD Payload package.

I have a regular '07 with a sticker of 1700 lbs payload but actually 1900lbs when I weighed the truck. Its a regular non-hd version and it still has more payload capacity then the newer f150, odd.. You'd think the newer trucks will be more capable but not always.

I have a 2013 F150 Lariat 4x4 157" SCrew with both the Max Tow & HD Payload packages and I would not consider the ride harsh. It's frim but not at all unacceptable when not towing.

The only thing to consider is that the hd package will give you 60psi tires causing the ride to be harsh.
