Default How much rock? F150 1999 V8 Long Box

Hello,

I need to get at least 1 ton of 3/8" of river rock to a side job and I have a 1999 F-150 V8 Long Box, and the shocks and struts seem to be in good shape from hauling a 1/2 cord of firewood recently. I have seen on some posts that 1.325 Tons=2650 lbs and on and on and on but I just need to know if my truck will hold the 1 ton or not. I am not concerned with getting some delivery truck and this truck is meant to do side jobs so I am not worried about using it for rock.

Thanks!

Your pickup probably has unused payload of about 1,500 pounds. So if you don't have any passengers or other weight in the truck, then you should be able to haul 2,000 pounds (one ton) without breaking a spring or worse. Pump the tires up to the max on the sidewall, drive slow, don't hit any bumps or dips at more than 5 MPH, and you'll probably make it.

But why not be safer and make two trips without overloading your F-150?

Rent a trailer, even a open uhual trailer. For $24.95 you can get a open 6x12 with a capacity of 2600 lbs. Why risk the truck, trans, shocks, tires and everything else?

Yeah I guess so, just wanted to save some $ and I already did the estimate for the job. I will look into it. Thanks!

Hands down, the most important thing is tires. If you have LT tires, make sure you inflate them to the maximum rating before hauling a heavy load like that. If you have P-rated tires, I don't think I would try that heavy of a load.
