The last part of the sentence should say "due to you are towing with a ford". If you look at my air bag thread you will see a 31" trailer that at 60 mph. I averaged 14.6 mpg. in my Tahoe. The trip home and to the new campground were both about 50 miles. This was flat land but millage sucks with the ford trucks to begin with and get's worse when towing.


I understand your point to watch our for crappy millage and it is true with any gas engine towing. But I used a company ford(2007 I think) for a week and a half and during that towed my truck to the dragstrip. I almost went bankrupt putting fuel it in especially when I towed a car hauler with my rcsb 2500 on it.

I call bull. My in-laws have a Tahoe and average 18 unloaded and about 9 mpg loaded at 60mph. The only advantage the Tahoe has is aerodynamics. But no way is it going to get near 15 mpg towing a30" trailer at 60. Maybe downhill with a tail wind......

Call what you want, I don't have any proof. I threw away the paper I did my calculations on a long time ago.


If they are getting 9 mpg. loaded then they have a serious issue. I get about 10 towing a car hauler around the city(heavier then most campers) and 15+ on the hiway.

I tow a 8x20 trailer with a #2300 Miata with a standard hitch without issue but I'm only towing a couple hundred miles at a time. The additional towing spring is a good idea to consider for about $300.

I've towed a 7x14 with a Silverado 5.3 for several years and get about 13 mpg.

If you are new to towing, make sure the ball is on tight, take tools with you (duct tape, wiring tools and a wrench to tighten the ball if you need to)and , a spare trailer tire. Inflate trailer tires to max psi on sidewall and air up,truck tires as well to a bit higher than it says on the door.

You may or may not want to use tow/haul mode. I usually don't unless I'm towing over 8klbs or maybe 5-6k in big hills/mountains.
Thanks for the info but I'm pretty sure I have the towing thing down...

Really?By any chance do you have a link or something you can give me?
From what I'v read the airbags along with WDH is the way to go.
This is the first I'v read on Airbags INSTEAD of WDH
I'v read countless threads ,but being the internet theirs lots of opinions
Right now I have the Active Road Suspension and though it does stop the axle wrap and corners better,I'm not sold on the better towing

Since it's a Chevy i guess you can get slightly better mileage traveling in the breakdown lane with your hazards on trying to climb the hills... But 15+mpg towing a "heavier than most campers" car hauler is B.S.

Without a WDHitch how are you suppose to transfer weight back to the trucks front axle and trailer axles with a bumper pull trailer??? The hitch by itself can only handle around 500lbs of tongue weight. That is why the WDHitch still exists! My trailer has 940lbs of tongue weight and airbags would not take the place of my WDHitch!

P.S.- I'd like to see your Chevy tow my camper and get 15+mpg .You know, since you tow a car hauler that is heavier than most campers.

You need to remember I live on flat land! The only hills areound here are on ramps to the express way. I pulled from Toledo, OH to Alexandria, VA with an empty trailer there and probe on the trailer back(trailer is heavy at 2500 lbs). Round trip I got 15.8(something like 16.5 going with empty trailer) and this is with a 3200 stall so the hills really beat up on my millage since it wouldn't lock as quickly as a stock converter would. This is a lighter load(5500 or so on the way home.)

On the hiway around here I shouldn't have problem getting your camper around at 15+ mpg. The big camper I pulled(see my air bag thread) was not only larger but also loaded with crap to the gills because they got kicked out so we stuffed what we could and rolled. Again hills and mountains will make that drop to 13 pretty easy.
