The "Hensley Bump" is an undesirable side effect of the converged link hitch design (found in both the original Hensley and the Propride 3P product). In short, the trailer can "run up" onto the tow vehicle in heavy braking situations. When the TV is stopping at a quicker rate then the TT, the pivot head of the hitch will slide to one side (as if in a turning maneuver). It will eventually hit rotating limit of the head (literally hitting metal stops) and produce a bump that resonates through the TV. You can google "Hensley Bump" for a more detailed explanation and there's some youtube vids out there showing the behavior.

{Edit} check out this video, right around the 1:00 hour mark for an example:

not trying to be a smart bottom but if your brakes are set properly don't that bump go away? the way I was tough to set up my brakes the trailer dose its own braking and so dose the T.V. so you don't over load T.V. brakes stopping the trailer?

I think so. I've towed my TT with my ProPride 3P for several thousand miles and never noticed a "Hensley bump".

The bump occurs with me during hill decent and when engine braking takes place. If you are aware of it you will always be ready for it.

And yes I pull the TT in my sig. :-)

Yeah that certainly help this situation, but in reality there's no way you can set your trailer brakes strong enough to compensate for how quickly the TV can stop in an emergency situation. When you have to slam the brakes, the TV is going to want to stop shorter then the TT and with a joint in-between them (Hensley), it's going to pivot and move.

I see all sorts of aftermarket do-dads added to your truck, but I don't see a TT. Step-daughter suspects I'm in the early stages of old timer's disease, so maybe she's right?

ok never gave hill decent or fast braking a though. so is it a hard bump, one that could jack up your transmission? I like the idea of this type of hitch but have yet to see one out on the road. I have a bars to chain type now and hate the bounce it give and the pulling over toward the passing big rig when big rigs pass.

It's not a drastic bump, but when it happens you'll notice it and immediately know what has happened. As for the bouncing over bumps (proportioning), that's a bumper tow downside and don't think what hitch you use really matters there. You'll still get it with the Hensley/propride. Bigger truck definitely helps

The bump is nothing strong enough to hurt the truck. It feels like your lawn mower shifted in your bed when slowing down if that helps.
