Default Helper springs

If helper springs are not for increasing payload, then what to they do? Why would you need them?

To get rid of some squat of the rear end.. Your rear axle is only rated for so much weight, no matter what you add to the suspension.

It adds weight capacity to the suspension but does not alter the payload rating. You don't really know what the limiting factor is. Axle, springs, wheels, or tires.

I could be anything from springs, axle, wheels tires etc. Adding helper springs increases the capacity of the suspension, but does not change the "payload rating" by Ford. You can put the same weight on it and it will not squat as much, but you cannot, by Fords rating, haul more than the rated payload.

remember that the rear axle rating on the sticker is what a stock truck is rated for.

you can find out what each component is actually rated for, ie: wheels, springs, axle, etc.

upgrade those to what you need and the sticker no longer applies, imo.

just cause the sticker says one thing, doesn't mean the truck can't be modified to increase capacity. people will try to bring up liability, insurance and legalities but I have never in my life heard of insurance companies denying a claim based on a passenger vehicle being over the GVWR of the sticker. my wife works in the legal department of an insurance company and she has never heard of it either.

But, they can... rear axle rating is just that... you can't make it hold more weight than it was designed to hold by adding stronger springs or 7 lug wheels...
