Are we on the truck side or the 7 pin on the trailer it self? What year is your truck? If 04+ ( unsure of previous years, may be the same) and were talking the wiring on your truck, you may want to just replace that harness. If it is 04 or newer there is a break away harness behind the bumper , above the spare tire drivers side. This harness takes care of park assist as well as trailer wiring. I believe it's around 100$ or less. Save your self the headaches.

Hmm. Not sure if the factory harness is the same for 03. But if it is you could buy a new harness and replace the chopped up one if there is a break away harness there. So you'd essentially be able to unplug the trailer wiring from the main harness plug in the new one re clip it and done. You would have to double check with the dealer. Or I will lol

Here we go. Trailer jump harness heavy duty( if you have both 4 and 7 pin). Worth looking into, I've had problems with this in newer trucks and fixed the harnesses but unless done very well they will fail again. They take a lot of abuse and road debris. Sorry for the double pictures, one of them was almost unreadable the other is a bit better
