Help choosing a travel trailer for my truck
I have a 14 stx sport supercrew 4x4 5.0 3.55 gear 20 in wheels with 275/55s. My wife has decided she wants to get a camper later this year, and it has me online shopping to get prepared. I've read numerous threads about payload and weight ratings and just want to make sure I make a good choice. I'm admittedly quite picky about my truck, and it will ruin the fun of camping if it is a stressful tow.
My payload per my door jam is 1575lbs only add ons thus far is a spray in liner. What kind of trailer weights should I be looking at? I'd like a model with at least one slide. Trailers I'm looking at seem to be around 5-5500 lbs. at 12% tongue weight that puts me at 600-660 lbs. does this sound reasonable?

Tow rating is probably 7,500 pound with 18" tires. But that's not your limiter. If you have GVWR of 7,200 pounds, then GVWR and payload capacity is your limiter.

I couldn't find self-contained TTs with one slide with GVWR of 5,000 to 5,500 pounds. My TT that's 22' long with a 19.6' box and no slide has GVWR of 5,600 pounds with wet and loaded weight of 4,788 pounds and up to 650 pounds tongue weight when wet and loaded for the road. So be sure you are reading the specs right and not quoting dry weight instead of GVWR.
If you find a self-contained TT with one slide (and walk-around bed) and GVWR less than 5,600, please post a link to it.

Maybe I'm not looking at the correct numbers, but I think this one fits.
Not really the one I was looking at, but something similar.

Your truck can pull this trailer. But, like so many things, it all depends. How heavily do you travel (with stuff), how fast do you pull, how far do you pull, topography (mountains?), etc.
Here is another trailer type to look at. You might find that a bed that doubles as a couch is a nice feature. You need someplace to sit on those rainy days or at night.

Good luck. Have fun. Be safe.

Coachmen Apex Nanos 191RBS

Yep, that one fits your description. GVWR 4,500. Length over 21' with 19' box. One slide for the dinette. Floorplan almost identical to my TT, but only 7.5' wide and with only one axle (not tandem axle). And it's a Coachmen - the cheapest-built RV trailer available and with a reputation of troublesome reliability.
Find one with that floorplan but with tandem axle and 8' wide and I'll maybe be interested, even if it is a Coachmen. Move up to the Coachmen ultra Lite 218RB and you have an 8' wide tandem-axle trailer with slide, but weight goes up and GVWR goes up to 6,000 pounds. It's hard to have your cake and eat it too.

My .02...buy BIGGER than what you think you need....you'll quickly find that you wished for more space, especially on those less than perfect days.
