Default Gas mileage while towing from Texas to Ontario

I drove our rig from Houston, Texas to Tiny, Ontario CA - 3600 miles total...Avg MPG per computer was 9.4 MPG. I pretty much kept the cruise control set at 65 MPH the whole way. I feel like that's low, but not sure.

Don't feel too bad about that mileage. As previously stated Eco OR Boost. When towing they use a lot of fuel. I had a 2011 ecoboost. I was towing MAYBE 4000 lbs max, hitting some hills, I averaged 7.5 mpg. Yes, it was disgusting.

The mpg you are getting is just about right.

Take it off cruise, you'd save some by judging when to let off, when to step on. Slow down and you'll save some. Sweet spot is closer to 55 - 60. Take the canoe and the bike off and you'd gain some too.

It actually did better with the canoe on there, it was only up there for the trip home.

Yeah, I realize it's either Eco or Boost, but I never get Eco either. Completely unloaded and stripped down, I get maybe 14 MPG in "Eco" mode. It's pretty disappointing all the time.

I get about 11-12 while towing 5300lbs, 60-65 mph and not using cruise.

I was getting about 9.5 in the same terrain with cruise on and letting the computer shift how it wanted, but wasn't happy with the amount it shifted. Tried driving to match what I could see coming and was much happier. Never used cruise again while towing.

I completely agree and did some of this on the trip, but when it's such a long trip I had to use cruise to give me a break.

OP, I sent you a PM, but disregard it as I just found this thread lol

That's brutal MPG. I wonder if the 5.0 would perform better with MPG in the same situation?

I keep reading the Eco is better for hills, etc, but loses more MPG when towing than the 5.0

I have the 5.0 and I feel I can safely say it wouldn't do any better in the MPG department. I get similar numbers towing my travel trailer at similar speeds. I would be interested to see if axle ratio has any significant influence on MPGs for a highway trip.

Ya I drove both motors yesterday back to back and preferred the 5.0 over the Eco. Eco low end power was great, but I really liked the way the V8 drove.
