Default Flat Towing a 2013 F150 4x4

This section is the closest I could find for my question. If there is a better place for this thread, please refer me to it. Otherwise, here goes...

I'm looking at a 2013 F150 Lariat 4x4 with most of the options I want. But I specifically need to "flat-tow" this behind a motorhome. On Chevys and Dodges it is as simple as placing the 4x4 into a neutral position, placing the transmission into "Park" and pull.

On the 2013 F150 Lariat 4x4 - the electric shift model (dial on the dashboard) not the floor mounted 4x4 shifter - on the 4x4 electric shifting dial, there is a picture of a vehicle chassis (on the bottom left) showing all four tires. I can't get a consistent answer from a dealer as to if this is what I need or not.

Any help here from someone alreading "flat-towing" this type vehicle?

First of all - welcome to the forum!!! This is the place to get answers to all your questions.

Second of all - this one has come up numerous times, and answers can easily be found with the search feature.

Third of all - RTFM!! (Awww - I just reread your post and you don't have the truck yet!!! So - the Owner's Manual is linked below!)

Below is a link to an online version of the 2013 Owner's Manual. Take a look at "Recreational Towing" starting on page 284 to get all the info you need about setting up the truck for flat towing.

Well....you'll also need to get some aftermarket stuff to attach a tow setup, and also to work your brakes and brake lights.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!!

A quick search using "flat towing" to search the titles of threads came up with a whole bunch.

Here's a real good one where forum member ShapeShifter has an excellent writeup of how he set his truck up for flat towing behind his motorhome:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I read through ShapeShifter thread on this install. Gotta say that I really envy anyone who has that level of teck ability - and guts to take on the task.

Me, I'll be paying a local trailer specialist to do the work.

the symbol you're describing sounds like the e-locker. There is a way to enable flat-towing, no worries.

1. Turn on truck to accessory. Not running, just on.
2. e-brake.
3. Shift transmission to neutral.
4. shift 4x4 switch from 4hi to 2hi five times within 7 seconds.
5. (OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED) Turn climate control to re-circulate to prevent exhaust from your RV from stinking up your cab.
Congrats! Your truck should have shifted it's transfer case to neutral. Tow away.
