You said it will stop the trailer, but takes longer than you expected.
If it eventually stops the trailer, then it is working right.
You are correct. I was told some wrong info by some others. When I went to my dealership and was able to watch the tech hook up to the truck and check the brake output and see that it was very strong. Also learning why the truck would show the trailer not connected when it was made the 2 1/2 hours I spent with the tech worth it.

I did get to see that the TBC worked perfectly on an emergency stop on the freeway when a car came to a complete stop in the middle lane of the freeway. Needless to say all hell broke loose. I had to slam on the brakes and the trailer brakes DID LOCK UP the brakes. I stopped in time but the car next to me got creamed.

I've had the trailer disconnected issue on my 13 but it usually recycles back on relatively quickly.

Just to be clear, when you first start the truck hooked-up you should keep your foot depressed on the brake pedal for 15 seconds, or do not depress the brake pedal?

What I have found is if I keep my foot on the brake pedal as the TBC goes through its checks at start up I sometime get 'trailer discount 'I then let it cycle through again with my foot off the brake pedal and it works fine.

I just went through a TBC failure on my 2015 Lariat in the mountains of GA. The trailer was checked and working properly. The Ford dealer replaced the TBC as they found it did the same thing to their trailer. Something is wrong with the truck, not the trailer. Has the faulty issue been found?

The system is easy to check. Get in the truck and start driving. Press the button on the TBC- do you feel the trailer brakes grab and slow you down? If so then everything if fine. Now set the gain to a level that doesn't bark or smoke the trailer tires when you apply the truck and trailer brakes together via the brake pedal

Mine was showing a trailer disconnect also, I noticed that on this truck the plug on the back bumper was looser than the last truck. I wrapped a little electrical tape around the plug and the problem is gone.

All of my TBC problems have been resolved for over a year now once the Trailer Controller Module was replaced. My module was shorting the TBC. After something like 8 TBC replacements I had a local mechanic at the Ford Dealership take it on as his project and he discovered that the controller module was sending current to the TBC when it shouldn't. have been.

There were thousands of suggestions that it was the trailer or I had to go through a start up sequence but all of that was crap. Replaced the module and happy towing.

I've noticed that I have to wiggle the plug in firmly, or the brakes wont work. It will detect the trailer, but when applying the TBC, it says no trailer connected. In my case, sounds like it could be the socket.

Always do a tug test after hooking up.
