F150 w/HD vs F250
#21
Just found out, looks like there may be a truck with HD and max tow headed to my area. Any know if those stock tires would be any good off road? I really do plan on unhooking the trailer and then off to the woods. I'll also spend a fair amount of time off road without the TT as well.
Daily driving and fuel economy are less important.
Thanks Tim

I can't speak to off road as that isn't something I've done with my truck yet, but I can speak to ride quality. Both loaded and unloaded this truck rides AMAZINGLY well. Very comfortable. Compared to my 08 XLT the ride is 100% nicer. My truck is my daily driver as well, and about 90% of that is on paved roads.

They are BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/As. You can probably do a search and find out more about their off road capability. They are an OEM specific AT tire, which means they meet an AT spec, but probably would not be considered an AT tire for most people.

Some food for thought. I trailer my 30' enclosed trailer maybe 20-25 days a year. With race car and stuff the trailer weighs in at 8500#. I also contemplated the F150 / F250 dilemma. I figured that with so few trailer days I would opt for the F150EB, Max Tow and HD Payload. Powerwise, no issues. But even with a weight distribution hitch I find that loading her up with that much weight taxes the suspension and any serious dips or bad roads does the suspension in. Anything big or fast passing me pushes me in and out, requiring steering corrections (Driving faster than the 18 wheelers is a must). Dual cam anti sways on my WDH would likely dampen that a bit, but my whole reason to get the truck was to haul and to do it safely and comfortably. My setup is pretty much near the limit of the vehicle. I'll head back to ford with my trailer to try out an F250 to get a feel and possibly trade up or possibly downsize my enclosed for an open trailer instead.
Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'm looking at some used F250s and 2500s right now. I probably won't tow more than once a month but when I do I don't want a white knuckle experience. And there's a lot of mountains and passes around here.
