If you are going to tow, you should understand that your main concern should be not killing PEOPLE, not your truck. Overloading it makes it easier to lose control and kill someone.

Also, if you and your girlfriend have never towed anything, perhaps you want to rent something under 5,000 lbs first to see what towing is like before you spend a lot of money.

Depends on trim level on a 2015.. With XL trim the HD Payload pkg still comes with 17" 7-lug wheels. With XLT or Lariat trim, it comes with 18" 6-lug wheels. Not available with fancier trim levels than Lariat.

That's a welcome change for folks who want the HD Payload pkg, but with wheels than can be replaced by aftermarket wheels. Try shopping for 7-lug wheels in the aftermarket and you won't find much choice.

No. It's the other way around for XLT and Lariat trim levels. Max Payload pkg includes the max tow pkg, but max tow is available without max payload.

Details matter.

But XL trim has been different since 2011 model year. HD Payload pkg was required with the max tow pkg only for XL trim.

Max tow was available with e-locker axle and normal wheels for XLT and Lariat trim levels since the EcoBoost engine was first available in the 2011 model year. But HD Payload pkg required 7-lug wheels and limited slip rear end.

The 17" steel HD are still 7 lug? That makes no sense to me. Why would they put a different drum, with 7 lugs, onto an XL?

And I'm still waiting to see what the HD wheel ratings really are. Last time I looked the 18" alloy HD wheels were only rated to 2101# in the 2015 Source Book. Which also makes no sense as the HD rear GAWR is supposedly still 4800#. The 7 lug wheels are 2400# rated as they should be.

Guess we'll know more when the HD payload trucks arrive on the lots.

Actually seen a couple of 7 lug HD payload trucks for sale in Ontario with after market wheels. Looked ok, but I wonder if they have the same weight rating as the originals.
