What can ya'll tell me about towing with 3.31 gears??
I know that they won't do as good as 3.55's or 3.73's, but for a guy that only tows 2 or 3 times a year with a 12.5 ft. utility trailer with one of those little Jap pickups on it, it ought to work good enough to get by for that shouldn't it?? My pal is thinking of buying a new F150 with the 3.31's and uses that little tiny pickup to deer hunt with. Beats a 4 wheeler all to hell since it has a nice heater, windshield, and cab. I'd be surprised if it weighed more than about 1500 lbs or so. What say you guys??

I've had mine about a month now (ecoboost). I've towed a little over 2000 miles so far. 3.31 gears towing a 20 ft enclosed car hauler 5 days a week. Trailer loaded normally weighs about 5500lbs. With the race car in it she's closer to 7k. No issues or problems truck does a great job. Towing 1500lbs would be a cake walk.

You won't even know 1500 pounds is back there. I have a 2013 Xlt scab ecoboost with 3.31 gears and tow regularly. I have towed my father in laws cattle trailer with cattle approx weight was 6500 and the truck didn't blink an eye. 1500 pounds will be a breeze.

3.31s va OK for moderate loads but really only on the ecoboost IMO. The min for 5.0 would be 3.55.
In either case only do it if you are confident the load will but be over 8,000 lbs. Otherwise get different gears.

That shouldn't be a problem. I've got the ecoboost with 3.15 rear end and I have no problem towing my small trailer and the regular weight that stays in the bed.

Yall act like you have to tow in 6th gear? First gear is so damn short in the 6r80 you could probably put a 2.4x gear in the rear and be fine. Don't expect to cruise up hills in 6th (seond over drive gear) but you'll be just fine

I have the 5.0 SCREW with 3.31 gears and wish I had gotten the 3.73's or the ecoboost.
Towing about 6900# in the mountains was a lot of high rpm work for that 5.0... on the flats or rolling hills it is fine.
For what you are looking to do, it will be fine, though I'm betting that Jap truck is more than 1500 pounds.

towed 7700lbs and then towed a dump trailer left the scales at 13k
Its not bad in tow/haul
I don't have the eco I have the 5.4 with 3.31s I probably wont ever buy a truck with them again but for now they do well.

You should have no problem with that. Yesterday I towed at 10,250 camper with my ecoboost and a 3.31. Plenty of power but of course the rear end wasn't heavy enough for the trailer. But the truck pulled it amazingly well was far as power goes. Biggest problem I had was my truck doesn't have the trailer brakes so that made it interesting for the short 10 mile drive.
