Default F150 5 liter crew cab vs f250 6.2 gas crew 6.75 bed

I'm really tossed between the 2 trucks. I'll will be putting 2000 lbs payload in the bed and running it 150 miles per day 4 times a week. That's only a maximum of 30,000 miles a year but more realistically 25k miles yearly. That's not enough miles to have a diesel to recoup the difference.
I know that will be maxing out the f150 with the heavy duty payload package and under using the f250 (semi vs full floating rears). Both are about the same price and the f250 can still be a leftover new 2012.
My question is; what would you do? Realistic mpg between the both? Bottom line, I'm afraid of the mpg the f250 might get . Am I being just apprehensive or just scared?
Any one put a space kap on a f150 or does anyone know the cubic feet of a regular cap on a 6.5 ft f150 flush with the cab?

Regular cab, 145" wheelbase, 4x2, Ecoboost, HD payload option has 3100# payload. 4x4 is 2810#.

Not a problem. Construction types beat these trucks up all the time. Just get a stripped down truck without a lot of options that eat up payload.

Your right, but a XLT 4x4 crew cab with a heavy duty payload package is 2200. Though on a cap (250), bed liner (50) and side tube step rails (150) that's another 450 lbs off the 2200 lbs on the door jam leaving 1750 legally. Still do able, but pushing it.

What would I do?

Buy the 250, swap in a set of Livernois cams / tune / full exhaust. You'll have the payload capacity you need and ~400rwhp/400rwtq.

Well then, you can do the math and know what's out there. If you want a 4x4 crew with cap and all, you'll need a superduty for that 2000# load.

But you could do it safely and legally with an F150 if you don't really need all the extras. Only you can make that decision.

If you didn't do the cap and went with a folding tonneau and sprayed in bedliner that would save you roughly 200lbs of payload, otherwise you going to need the F-250. I wouldn't get the gasser though that thing only gets like 12mpg. The 6.7L diesel averages 18mpg with that kind of load in the bed as long as it doesn't add wind drag. Carried 2000 lbs of deer corn 500 miles this season and got that mpg. Not loaded I average 21mpg with my F-250 Supercab 4X2 w/8' bed. The 4X4's are only about 2mpg less than mine.

I'd go for the F250. Mpg when loaded will be about the same anyway. Unloaded, there will be more difference. How long do you plan on keeping the truck?
