No. The Maxtow will increase payload. Dunno why that one is so much (370#) below the max payload (1900#) for that config. My FX2 was only about 40# below cause of the 20" wheels/tires.

Do you know what options are on it? Moon roof, big wheels, bed liner ... they do add up. Electronics shouldn't add much.

Canadian price. Crazy compared to the USA.

Thoughts?

Yup it's loaded. Spray-in bed liner and moon-roof must add 250#, 40# for 20" wheels, it's adding up ...

And then the stuff you add. My Leer cap easily takes away 200#.

I really wish Ford that made the HD Payload option available on more models, like the FXs, and that the dealers ordered more of them in.

But if you're willing to wait a few weeks, you can special order an XLT with HD Payload, and still get all the factory rebates. A lot cheaper. Last I looked it was about 7-8K off list.

its all in the compromise.

Ideally id find a FX4 17" wheels, max tow, heated & cooled buckets, no sunroof, 4x4.
Gotta keep looking.

Default towing

What does hd payload and maxtow add? Tires, springs, shocks? Could it not be added cheaper than buying a new truck?

The floor plan is perfect for our growing family! Our concern is that this trailer is too much for our truck. We are considering upgrading the truck to the Eco boost engine since the towing is 9100 lbs. does anyone have and suggestions or recommendations so that we don't feel so lost? Thanks
Go to RV.net to get educated answers on this please.

That trailer is way to much for that 1/2 ton truck. Your "LOADED" hitch weight alone will be over the trucks rated hitch, standard tow package or Max Tow package (1050 lbs or 1150 lbs).

Here's a related thread at RV.net that I just responded to. You'll have enough motor, you won't have enough frame (hitch weight) or axle capacity.

Read one response here and another here.

HD Payload adds beefed up suspension (springs, shocks, LT tires) and HD 7 lug wheels and rear axle. It's the 7 lug stuff that you can't do aftermarket and is probably the most important. It increases your rear GAWR as well as your GVWR by roughly 500#.

I believe the frame is normally strengthened for any SCrew, but this is carried to all the HD Payload trucks (SCab and RCab) ... maybe?

Think of the HD Payload F150 as somewhere between a regular F150 and a F250, with the advantage of running a lighter, more fuel efficient engine (5L V8 or ECO).

I'm looking at the 2013 f150 Eco boost with the max tow package, 3.73 axle, 6.5 ft box, crew cab 4x4. My understanding that this truck will pull 11,000lbs and that the gcwr is 17,000 lbs. is this correct???? If this is the case this new truck will be able to handle our 27qbs heartland trailer (grvw7700, dry weight 6200lbs), the wife 150 lbs,me 185 lbs, and the two kids 100 lbs. I just bought the equalizer hitch 12,000 series. I'm hoping this new setup will be sufficient. Any thoughts??????

You didn't mention payload.

Max possible payload with that truck is 1840# (7700# GVWR). A lot less if you have many options.

Say your trailer's tongue+WDH weight is 1000-1100#, that'll leave a max 840# for everybody and anything else in the truck. Realistically say 700#. Unless you added a bunch of options, you should be ok. Just don't put much of anything in the bed of the truck.

Like everybody has said, Tow capacity and GCWR is usually not the problem. Payload and the Truck's GVWR is.

Also, with the WDH you can remove weight off the truck's rear axle so the rear GAWR should be ok. And as long as the trailer's tongue weight is under 1150#, the truck's hitch will be fine.

Load everything up and take the rig to a CAT scale just to be sure. It's amazing how fast you can fill a truck+trailer up and overload it.
