We made it to our destination. 160 miles. Overall a good first run with the truck. Had huge crosswinds, but in most trucks I think you get some movement, so no biggie. We got 8 mpg, but it's a heavy trailer. Trans temp (tow/haul mode) spiked once (for about a half mine in a very long steep grade) to 210, it then settled between 203-206. Right front tire was much hotter to the touch than other three, but not nearly got enough to concern me.

My only oddity here us that the service traction light came on and stayed on. It goes off if you cycle the key, and had only ever come on during towing. That includes the few test tows, and this trip. Not sure what it means. The dealer didn't know either.

Thoughts on any of this.

Do you mean this warning light?

Traction and Stability Control
Illuminates when the system is active. If it remains illuminated or does not illuminate when you switch the ignition on, this indicates a malfunction. During a malfunction the system will switch off. Have the system checked by an authorized dealer immediately.

I wonder if your tire was hot because the system was applying the brake? No idea if this is reasonable, but I don't like coincidences...

In my experiences, A hotter than normal tire can mean your dragging a brake or the wheel bearing are going.

The truck has 1400 miles on it. The dealer pulled all 4 wheels prior to the trip checking for break wear, calipers sticking, front wheel bearing etc, The traction light was addressed prior to the trip, and no problems were found. Yesterday, the light didn't come on until I was leaving the gas station, 130 miles into the trip.

The light has never come on while driving without the trailer, including a few 200 + mile trips.

If one wheel is running hotter regardless of the warning light, I would find out why. Only if its noticeably hotter. Easiest way to verify and prevent a future failure is to use these. Easy on a trailer or truck to check for a dragging brake or time for regressing bearings.

It is scheduled to go into the shop Wednesday for another look at it. Service writer says there is clearly something not right, and wants to get it corrected. This is why I have bought 11 vehicles from them. They are not telling me it is normal, or otherwise not to worry about it.
