Default Engine Temp @ 237 in 2.7L towing uphill

Towed my 7000 pound trailer up the grapevine this past week which is a 6% grade for about 15 miles. The truck down shifted into 3rd and I noticed that the engine temp raised slightly and the digital readout came on at about 225. The temp went up to about 237 beep fly and hovered mostly around 230. At 225 it went away again.

I have the 2.7 ecoboost with 3.73 gears. Has anyone experienced this and at what temp should I be concerned?

The dummy gauge was still basically in the middle. Went a little past halfway. I turned off the ac and it helped some.

Thanks. I've seen that thread but it's about the transmission temp not engine temp.

The truck will warn you when it gets too hot. It gives you a warning to reduce speed, and then the overheat, pull over now warning. 237* is not a temp to worry about too much, but when it hits 245* thats when you get off the road. Years ago when I turned a wrench, I was surprised at how high the temps get in an engine. I worked on quite a few GM cars where you have to watch the temps with a scan tool when doing a flush and fill, and they normally went 235* before the t-stat opens. Then after the T-stat is open 100% and before the cooling fans kicked on the temp would hover around 230*.

I wouldn't worry about that as you are within normal operating temperature range.

You should change the oil when the Intelligent Oil Life monitor tells you, which knows the engine temp...

Keep a GOOD quality full synthetic and change it when the monitor tells you to. The truck has a bunch of protective nannies built in. If it didn't tell you that you had a problem, you didn't.
