My truck made a loud off and on again tea kettle whistle noise. Thought it was the air filter tray not sealed correctly. Then I thought it was my alternator because the noise changed to a more whining sound. Turns out it was the serpentine belt tension pulley bearing was completely shot and even hard to turn. Replaced it today and now the engine is as quiet as a church mouse. Finally!

Ok guys, this issue literally drove me nuts! I took it to my dealer and explained the situation and they seemed to understand what I was saying. We drove the truck and actually got it to do the sound. They called it a hooter valve...lol non technical term described by the tech. They did replace the vaccum pump under the headlight and it has stopped! Thank God! From my understanding that part has multiple revisions...hope this helps....

Thanks for the info. How were you able to duplicate the noise at the dealership? When it was really cold here about a month ago sounded like my vacuum pump was making a buzzing noise for about 5-10 seconds after startup. I had an appointment set up to bring it into the dealership but of course it stopped making the noise right before I was going to take it in. The noise/vibration it makes when towing or driving into a headwind absolutely drives me nuts. Don't know how to get it to do it for the dealer though.

Dropped my truck off at the dealer today for the rumble strip / humming noise under load. It typically does it when towing a heavy trailer or going up an incline at freeway speeds (under boost). The sound last for 10 seconds or less and is very intermittent. This does not cause a CEL or driveability issue. It happens with the stock and AFE intake. I have no other engine mods.

I doubt they'll be able to replicate it but we'll see. I will post an update if they decide to replace the vacuum pump or find anything else. If they say they can't find anything I plan to escalate the issue.
