Did I screw up?
Hi,
When I got my truck, I asked for an upgrade from the 18 inch wheels/tire combo and got the 20 inch PVD. Did I reduce my payload capacity?
My doo sticker factors-in the 18 inch wheel for calculation of payload.
???

I seriously doubt it. I think the weight ratings of the tires and wheels far outstrips that of the truck.

The P275/65R18 tires have load capacity of 2756, so they are a smidgen stronger than the P275/55R20, but that doesn't matter because both tires have more weight capacity than your GAWR.
Both sizes have almost identical diameter (tire revolutions per mile) so towing power should be almost identical.

Rather than start a new thread I want to ask my question here as it pertains to the 20" PVD wheels on my 2018 Lariat.
Why does Ford require the 20" wheels in order to get the 12,700 lb tow rating for my 2018 F-150 Lariat 4x4 5.5' bed?
Is it the 275/55/R20 tire size, or the 20" rim that makes the difference? I'm guessing it's the stiffer sidewall of the 20" tires that would increase the tow rating?
I will not be towing anywhere near the 12,700 mark so don't start jumping on me! My future camper will be around the 7000 lb mark.
Just wondering because I had found a good deal on a set of 18" rims I like better than the 20" PVD rims, but do not want to decrease my tow rating.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong: I believe the heaviest rated rear axle is 4800lb in the HDPP.
All of the aftermarket six bolt wheels I've looked at are rated at least 2500lb. This probably holds true for factory wheels, but you will only know if you check the load rating stamped on the wheel.
There is a post somewhere in this forum that states not all of the wheels are rated to handle 80psi. No idea where one could look up that information, I've never seen wheels specs that included PSI.

That's really interesting, the cheap 6-spoke has the same load rating as the heavy duty payload package wheel, which does not meet the load rating of the 4800lb axle.
