All great comments above. You are smart to ask before you buy. With that size trailer and your family go with a bigger truck. Even if you were to go to a 26 foot bunkhouse model trailer with your family and all the goods in the trucks you would be at max limit on most F150's. With your example of a 7600 fully loaded trailer average tongue weight is 13% which is 988 pounds.
I love my F150 it tows like nothing I have owned before; but it's your family play it safe.

100% AGREE.
also keep in mind that your family is still young. Those young'uns will be growing. And that means more weight, and more stuff. Go with a SRW 250 or 350. Diesel is optional but probably advised IF you'll be towing a lot. If not, then the 6.2L would be ok too.

I'd suggest looking at something a bit shorter/lighter considering this will be your first TT. Knock off the second door and a slide and you'll still have nearly the same indoor space and lose several hundred pounds and length. The 800lbs of payload capacity in a trailer isn't very much, especially one that is 36ft long. Try the 272BHS. I'd also suggest an Expedition for your family.

You guys have given me great advice. As a first timer I appreciate it.
I think I am going to go with a newer 15/16 F150. They have a bigger towing capacity (9000+) and payload (1900+). The older versions have a limited payload of 1500 ish for the ones I was looking at and tow 7,500lb.
As a daily driver I think the 250 is just too much for me. I only plan on towing 5-10 times a year to RV parks with the family.
The actual trailer I want is 6000lb shipped. There doesn't seem to be a much lighter option for a quad bunkhouse. Figure in 1500lb for luggage, options, propane etc makes 7500. That's 20% less than the towing limit.
I think I'll be OK with payload too for a while as my kids are very little. We all weigh around 500lb now. That should leave 1500lb for the hitch and tongue weight. The other option is to have the wife drive the kids them in the mini van and I'll take the trailer and meet them there. Might be a quieter ride for me anyway!
