Wanted to know in everyones opinion what the heavyest/ most stout rear axle was put in the back of anygiven year f150. Im talking differential, brakes, axles... with 5/6/7 lugs. I own a heavy duty truck for towing my fifth wheel camper and want to know what comes close for a half ton production pickup

It is the Sterling 10.25" with the heavy tubes for the max payload rating.

Nope, the 10.25 semi-float was only available in the F250 light-duty from 97-99 and the F150HD in 2000.

The current F150 max-tow uses the 9.75 semi-float with 6-lug axles and the F150 HD payload comes with an upgraded 9.75 with 7-lug axles. I am not sure how much they changed the 9.75 7lug but it does appear to have a couple more splines on the axle shaft and maybe increased diameter shafts.

so that had a light duty 250 drum brake? ford obviously felt future f150 with heavier gvwr did not need as much rear axle. hmm

so reading over more forum posts it seems the biggest rear axle founded in f150dom only lasted one year year 2000. Its a semi floater. Anywho... the gvwr of said half ton was 7700lbs? the following years went to smaller rear axles but kept the 7700lbs gvwr?

The 04-08 Body style HD F150 also had the 10.25 Sterling. They started using the 9.75 as the HD F150 axle in the 09+ Body style but of course no HD package was available until 2012 or 11 I believe.

The 7700 series f150 up until 2004 heritage had the 10.25 semi float rear with up to a 4.10 factory gear available. My 2002 7700 came with a 10.25 rear 3.73 gear 7 lug rear. Mine is a disc rear also. From what I see all 10.25s from 2004-2008 were 4.10 rears and had 7 lugs. I see under axle assemblies only 8.8 and 9.75 for the 2009 - 2012 f 150.
