Default Car towing question

I'm moving from NC to MO. Total distance is right at 1,000 miles. I called uhaul and have 2 options...$470 for a trailer that has all 4 wheels of the towed vehicle off the ground or $200 for a trailer that keeps the rear tires on the ground. I'm towing a front wheel drive car.

I'd prefer to save the money. Since I'm towing a FWD car, will there be any issues with the $200 trailer other than normal tire wear? Thanks for the help!

Not technically off topic, but you would probably get better informed answers in the motorhome/toad forum.

Plus look in the Owner's Guide for the toad under "towing" and see what it says about that vehicle on a dolly with the front wheels of the toad on the dolly.

Depending on the vehicle you may be able to tow it with all 4 down.

But a tow bar with plate and other items required to hook up brakes and lights on the toad would be a lot more expensive than simply renting a dolly that has lights and brakes.

Possibly, but not necessarily. Tow bar and lights can be had for well under $150. Uhaul tow dollies I'm aware of don't have brakes.

One thing to keep in mind with the dolly is you can't really back up. Might not be a concern, but something to keep in mind if you go that route. Also, as mentioned above, the dolly won't have brakes, the trailer I believe will have surge brakes so that could make stopping a bit easier.

Thanks for the feedback. I went with the dolly trailer. They recommended that for short trips only, so I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't mess up my wife's car. Now let's see what kind of MPG my 2.7 will get pulling it on this trip.

Having towed quite a bit with both the best option is a trailer...but the 2 wheel dolly works fine for short trips.
