Default 7 pin trailer Harness Part number

Hi All,

I recently received my new company truck, a 2014 XLT, Super Crew. I am in the process of gathering everything to install my trailer hitch. (As a company fleet vehicle I didn't get the option from Factory, but they allow me to install my own at my own cost).

One piece I am having a hard time identifying is the piece of wiring harness to bring the 7 pin wire to the bumper replacing 4-wire flat that came on the truck. This is the one that connects just above the spare tire, then runs to the bumper.

Does anyone who has used this harness have the Ford Part #? Or where I can purchase it?

In several searches I have found references to it, but no actual part number. and I have had moderate success searching Ford Parts online... cant seem to confirm exactly which I need, drawings and images aren't quite the same as what I see under the truck and/or seem to be much larger harness than what is needed.

I need the 7 wire as there are 2 trailers I pull often that have been wired up with a 7 flat connector - but don't have brakes - so at the moment I am not worrying about a Brake controller, but might add in the future.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Cheers,
MK

Click on this link. Then call them to be certain it is the part you need.

Thanks SmokeyWren for the Info. I had come across that one in my searching through FordParts. com...

Of course I don't have rear back up sensors, and it seems like a lot of extra harness for what I need to do. I sort of think there must be a 7 pin extension like that for trucks with out the rear back up sensor.

I will try that part number with some local dealers (I am in Canada) - I would feel bad calling White Bear knowing that I wouldn't be purchasing from them.

Still hoping someone who has completed the install/conversion I am looking to do will chime in.. I don't think my desire is that unique, I imagine others have upgraded to the full 7 pin.

Thanks again.

Cheers,
MK

There are various wiring diagrams depending on exact use of the trailer. But none of them include a wire for "back up sensor".

The wires in a 4-pin RV connector are for:

- Left turn + brake light

- Right turn + brake light

- tail and running lights

- ground wire

A 5-pin connector adds one wire for electric trailer brake controller.

A 6-pin connector adds one wire for 12-volt hot wire, used for RV battery charging.

A 7-pin connector adds one more wire called the auxiliary wire. It's another 12-volt hot wire that can be used for anything you want another direct 12-volt source, including backup lights or a porch light or maybe a light shining on the hitch to help you hook up and unhook the trailer. That's probably the wire you're calling the "backup sensor" wire.

If you don't need the auxiliary hot wire, then consider going for a 6-wire connector. Those are often used on horse and livestock trailers, and some utility trailers. But the easiest way is to use the Ford 7-pin RV connector, then just don't wire up the auxiliary wire, which is orobabky the center wire in the 7-pin connector.

The 5-pin connectors are rare and hard to find, so I wouldn't consider those.

The 4-pin flat connectors are often called "U-Haul" wiring, Just lights, no brake controller or trailer battery wires.

I was referring to the schematic from your first post. It shows the back up sensors for the bumper of the truck as included in the harness. I don't have back up sensors on my truck.

The information did help. It also lead me to this post on F-150Online Forums about this very topic. Again, still need to source the exact part number which will be right. Interesting this thread identifies the a very similar part number... but theirs ends in B not A as the one SmokeyWren directed to.

The link I found the part number on included both the A and B part numbers, but with no explanation of any difference between the two. You'll probably have to talk to a Ford parts counter expert to determine which one is for your exact truck.
