Screw with 6.5' bed loaded fx4 with a 7700 lb gvw is 1348 lbs.
My xlt SCab 4x4 with a 6.5' bed is 1844 lbs also with a 7700 gvw. The difference is the weight between the 2 trucks as to what you can legally carry.

That's what power heated and cooled everything does... plus sunroof.... extra foot of frame and cab... stereo etc. My xlt is perfectly acceptable as well.

I really have never given this a lot of thought. I usually go by the squat factor
As you never have scales around anyway. I would not load 3000 pounds in the bed but 2000 would be a non issue for me . Now I am not stupid . if I feel I am loaded too heavy due to handling or the speed I need to travel I will rethink
On the side of safety . I think that is the problem though not with you guys here but Some don't have that common scents that kicks in when things don't feel right . like the guy I saw last weekend hauling about 30 sheets of plywood on top of a SUV and lost it all over the windshield at the 2nd stop light. The only thing holding it on was that thin string from Lowe's .

I was comparing some payload numbers between some trucks. As I've mentioned elsewhere I have a F150 Screw(1401# payload) and a Crew Cab Silverado(1575# payload). Both have short beds. Interestingly enough, I was comparing payload numbers to a friends GMC Sierra standard cab with a 8 ft bed. His payload was just around 1650#. All trucks were 1/2 ton. I found this interesting as the conventional wisdom is that a long bed truck should have more payload , which it does, but barely.
Longer beds often mean less payload if on the same platform. It has the same axle and more metal. This would normally equate to less payload for the longer bed. If they change the axle then you could gain some payload. Options and cab will have some play in as well as every pound added reduces your available payload.
