I'm a Lariat with 502A, sunroof, tailgate step and large fuel tank as well, but my payload is substantially lower.... Weird.

I get that my truck isn't configured for towing, I just thought it would be rated a little higher since it has max tow

I should have mentioned.. I went with the 2 wheel drive in order to maximize payload (but still enjoy the nicer trim options). Could explain a significant amount of our variance. Ive needed every bit of my 1652#s for towing a 7K lb trailer with family of 4 and to stay right at my payload capacity.

FWIW, toybox trailers can be closer to the 10% if loaded correctly. Granted, you will need to verify this with a scale, but you if you load your outlander near the rear or directly over the axle you can control tongue weight. Just make sure it is a minimum of 10%

Well, I guess this rules out the toy haulers I was looking at... Thanks for the help guys!

what you should do is take the truck to a CAT scale and weigh it. preferably dry(empty) and wet (loaded with whatever you would haul while towing including WDH)

subtract the dry weight from your GVWR. Just to double-check your PL rating. If your weighed PL is a lot higher than your sticker (say more than 20% or so higher) then maybe your sticker is wrong, BUT there's a lot of calculations that go into the ratings, so it's safer to be conservative.

then subtract the wet weight from GVWR to give you an "adjusted PL" or what the max. Tongue weight would be.
