Default To all those pulling travel trailers / towing

Just wondering what your opinion is and if I should have any concerns. (Other than increasing my debt). Safety of my family and others on the road is my number one concern.

I have a 2011 F150 SuperCrew Ecoboost 4x4 Lariat with Max Tow 5.5 bed and 3:73.

I am currently towing a 2012 Keystone Passport Ultra lite trailer that's just under 5,000 #'s. I am looking to upgrade to a 2013 Open Range Lt 308BHS. Well, my wife is looking to upgrade.....Let's get that clear LMAO.

I checked all statistics and it appears I have plenty of "truck" for the job with a 17,100#'s GCWR. I currently use a Reese WD hitch and will most likely get a newer Equalizer or something to address the heavier load.

2013 Open Range lt 308bhs
GVW 9,995
Dry Wt 8,510
Payload 1,485
Hitch wt 995

F150 Stock, no lift, etc.
GVWR 7,650
Dry wt 5,625
Tow 11,300
Tongue weight 1,130

Oh...and I know numbers mean a lot, but I also take into consideration real life situations. Which is why i'm asking your opinion. I'd rather hear it from those that have been here, than solely base my decisions of numbers on paper.

Whooooooeeeeee that's a big TT!! Just my opinion, I feel more comfortable towing somewhere in the 65% of the tow vehicles capacity range. Yes mine is rated to tow 11,300 just like yours but if I were looking at a TT that size I would likely upgrade the TV to a 3/4 ton. That's a really big burden when the crosswinds and grades come your way.

Your truck isn't rated for 11,300. You need to locate numbers for your truck.

Not much CCC on that rig.

IMHO it's too much trailer for your particular combo. You'll be way over on the RAWR.

I did locate the numbers for my truck. According to the specs here:

http://www.ford.com/resources/ford/g..._F150nov18.pdf

and here:
https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...0%20Pickup.pdf

2011 Ford F150 SuperCrew with 3.73, 4x4, 145" Wb = The maximum loaded trailer weight (in lbs) for an automatic transmission is 11,300. Like I said in my original post. Since I have "(3) Requires Max Trailer Towing Package."

Am I missing something?

Thank you, I appreciate your response. This is exactly why I posted the thread. Am looking for opinions. I realize it would be "pushing" my Fords limits.

With 17,100 GCWR - the dry wait of ford 5,625 - the dry weight of trailer 8,510 = leaves me with 2,965 lbs to work with. I'm not sure that gas, family of 5, plastic dishes, clothes, supplies, etc will add up to 2,965 lbs. But i'm sure it will add up quickly....

I haven't purchased the trailer at this time.... I like to "over research" before I make big purchases. The idea of upgrading to a 2500/3500 has crossed my mind on several occasions. The only problem with that is that I REALLY REALLY LOVE the ecoboost F150.

According to my door jam sticker, my RAWR is 4,050 lbs. How will I be over if the Tongue wait of the TT is only 995 lbs?

While you seem to have found a travel trailer that calls for only 10% of total weight to be tongue weight aren't most of the models, brands calling for more than that?

You don't think the hundred pounds or so that the weight distributing hitch has counts as tongue weight it is as if you tossed it in the bed up near the rear window?

I was plenty happy with the 9900 towing capacity as the way I read the rules it takes a class A license to get the trailer above 10,000 pounds. I see you have stayed under that.

I can't say how what you are contemplating will handle. What I have found is at night on curvy roads/highways hitting an unexpected dip or rise makes the stability control kick in and I am glad it is there.

It will probably follow your truck like a shadow and not even be noticeable.
