Hey All,
My bride and I are about to pull the trigger on a travel trailer. Already have the weights, towing and carrying, figured out, etc. We have found a new small 21'er we both really like and are now ready to make a purchase. 99% of use will be my wife and I and we do not want to over purchase.

Figured I ask here before diving in about your buying experiences.
We are looking at a Keystone Cougar 21 RBSWE. Dealer has several on the lot now. Best I can figure is there is no real MSRP on these. Prices are all over the place and vary from dealer to dealer by a LOT.

Is there a source where I can get a reasonable value on a new trailer? I'd like to get a good deal but I do not want to be unrealistic in my offer when I buy. Thanks in advance!

I would make an offer, lower then what they are asking.... See what they say... When I bought my tt I had cash in hand... Offered them a take it or leave it price. They took it...

I have bought a lot of cars this way as well... If its to low they won't take it and they will say so.

You also have the fact that this time of year not many are buying new campers, so they may be willing to drop there profit way down just so they can make a sell

Use RVTrader.com!

Plug in the different models you're looking at, contact all dealers in your region that have that model, and go after the best price. Best case the closest dealer will match the other more distant dealers price in order to win your business. Worst case you drive 500 miles to save some bucks!

Check out NADA travel trailer by Brand, Model etc. From what I believe they take in used units using NADA - no options added - you will see Low Retail and Avg. retail. The price they offer you on the trade in will be 85% of low retail and then put it on the lot above avg. retail. They tell you on the trade in is that is all banks will allow ( Low retail).
When you go to buy the used one they will need a down payment to get price down to Avg. retail or lower so bank will agree to price if you do not pay cash.
When you leave the lot at top retail price you are out the difference between low retail and what you paid.

Use NADA for new ones also - New TT can be marked down 25 to 35 % - New 2015 will be out in 5 to 6 months - They want to sell 2014 now

Start by offering 35% off the MSRP value and settle on 30% off. I've done research on many RV's over the years and 30% off seems to be the correct number. As another poster said, don't be afraid to travel a little. Michigan seems to offer the best deals. Many of them are volume dealers selling into Canada and don't seem to need to make as much on the sale of a new unit as they deal better with the units that sell.

If you don't mind traveling to pick it up i would check out Pete's Rv.. They have two dealerships. I purchased mine from there dealer in northern Vermont. Mine is a 2012 Keystone Outback 292bh. The MSRP was $34,999 I paid $19,990+ tax...

Agreed! I've noticed Gillette's Interstate RV seems to have some really killer pricing. Not so much on there website, but if you crawl Craigslist many of their models are advertised there with the "real" out the door pricing. They even claim to have the best pricing in the states...
