9k GTWR lb Trailer - is my math correct?
Truck
2016 F150 XLT / SCREW / 3.5 EB / 157" / 3.55 locking rear
- Max Tow Package
- GCWR = 17,100
- Payload Sticker = 1,865
- No accessories, all stock.
Travel Camper
- 29' Box
- UVW (empty) Rating = 6,273 lbs
- Hitch Weight (empty) = 735 lbs (11.7%)
- Max Cargo = 2,892 lbs
- GTWR = 9,200 lbs
So rounding up and using 12% @ 9,200 lbs GTWR, that would bring me to 1,104 hitch weight + 50lb WDH = 1,154 on the tongue.
1,865 max payload - 1,154 tongue weight would give me 711 lbs left over. My wife and kids weigh 350 lbs combined - so this leaves me with 361 lbs payload.
It's not a lot - but within spec - correct? I would obviously have to leave the bed completely empty during towing.
Also worth considering we would rarely (if ever) max out the trailer load rating as we would likely only go on weekend trips, or at max a week with the tanks all empty while towing.
I haven't bought the RV, this was one I was just considering and wanted to make sure my math was correct as I continue to look.
EDIT - wanted to ask - do most RV dealers have scales on-site to verify their numbers with? If not, how can I verify before purchasing? I've read that dealer numbers can be off sometimes.

Math is correct, but incomplete, and some concerns.
First - read the sticker on the hitch. 500 pounds without a WDH, 1,1__ with one... You are likely about to max out the hitch weight IF you added 3,000 pounds of stuff to the trailers empty weight.
Second, you forgot yourself in the calculation, so 361 minus you.
Third, 50 pounds for a WDH is light. Figure 75 - 125.
Otherwise, math is fine but you're pushing limits at the 9,200 pounds.

Few clarifications:
- 350lbs is all 4 of us (Wife and I are ~ 130lbs each)
- Sticker shows 1,210lbs. I looked at this before but assumed that rating was standard, not custom to the truck.
Hitch sticker is below - it shows V5 - I thought it came with a class 4 hitch? Or is that different?

You have Max Tow. Apparently it's the V. So you have 1,210 pounds to work with on the tongue weight.

That is a lot of CCC in your TT. With empty tanks you could probably load everything you need under 8K. With tongue weight and hitch you are around 1K leaving 800 lbs. Payload. Believe me there a very few 1/2 tons that can say this. Your payload is actually a little less due to the 36 gal. tank, otherwise it would be over 2K. Get a good WDH and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the verification!
Looks like I'm in a good spot then with my truck then. I originally wanted a Lariat but was swayed toward the XLT due to the slightly higher payload number (price was better too). I told the sales guy I wanted the max towing configuration for a SCREW and he guided me toward my XLT over the Lariat I was eyeing. Although it sucks losing payload to the extra fuel tank, I think that was a sacrifice worth taking - I can't imagine towing 9k lbs on 23 gallons!
I was a little bummed after I bought it and found out about the HDPP that I wasn't aware of, nor did anyone in the 5 dealers I looked at mention to me and was a little fearful about missing out on it. But it looks like although that would have been nice to have, I'm OK anyway with my configuration.
Looks like my "ideal" truck would have been a Lariat with HDPP but I would think that would have been near impossible to find in a 16' without custom ordering. I was passed the custom order point when I was shopping and didn't want to be the guniea pig for the new 17' drivetrain.
Side note - what WDH do you guys recommend for my configuration?

I am towing a 8K loaded TT with my setup. I have the 3.5 EB Sport 4x4, 3.55, 145 WB. Mine does not have max tow but came with the IBC and 36 gal. tank, 1830 payload. My tires are 18" P rated with 116T load rating max psi 54. I inflate to 45 for towing, next set will be LT's. My rear end was too squirrelly for my liking so I added the Supersprings that really helped the situation. As far as the WDH I am using the EAZ-Lift with 2 friction sway controls. Most people on the TV forums recommend the Equalizer 4 PT.
