I have a short box truck and a 5th Airborne Sidewinder on my 5er. This is about as close to the cab as it gets.

And yes, you have to worry about payload with a slider.

I'm looking at purchasing a 2014 F150 ecoboost to pull our 2013 cougar, which is smaller than yours, does your ecoboost have any issues pulling the 5th wheel? I'm stepping down from a F350 6.4 diesel and wondering if I'm making the right choice.

I have no problems...lots of low end torque and usually run with the cruise on and in 6th in the flat lands. We get into the hills and drop to 5th. Running down the road gets about 10-11mpg.

I run with these guys and have no problem leading or following...

My recommendations are to go with mid-profile (about 12' high) fivers with the max turn cutaways at the front and limit the GVWR to 10K and the dry pin weight to 1400.
I just read your statement again and if you are within the above parameters, you should be good.

I think there are plenty of anecdotes to "prove" that our F-150 trucks, when properly configured will tow large, relatively heavy, fivers, and do so with a reasonable degree of safety. I am driving 2nd F150 and my 4th F-series. My most seriously prepped tow vehicle was a 2000 F350 SuperDuty (which I sold recently, just short of 200K miles). None of the other vehicles could tow like that F350. The low end 'grunt', the ablity to maintain highway speeds in the mountains, and flatland cruising was excellent. I did upgrade to larger brakes, and added a Banks package to the 7.3L.

My point is that our F150 are great tow vehicles, for moderate loads, but if you are going to tow large 5ers, heavy trailers, don't put all your trust in your F150.

Happy Trails and Safe Towing to All Y'all..
