Default 500 miles with 7500 pounds & 5.0

Towed a pretty good load this weekend on a round trip from central ohio to just south of downtown Louisville. The real test was the 2 mile covington hill coming out of Cincinnati southbound. The grade is pretty steep( 5% ) and traffic across the bridge was at 40mph starting into the grade. The 5.0 pulled like a champ. I crested the grade at 70 and had to back off the throttle. It was accelerating in 4th very easy.

I was towing with another driver pulling a 6 horse with a 2012 6.7 cummins in a 3500 dodge. His trailer is close to 18k but I was usually passing him in the steeper hills. Considering I was at max rated tow for my 5.0 with 3.55gears I was very happy. The truck only dropped into 4th on the really steep hills and most of the time cruised in 5th or 6th. The overall mpg was right at 10 so not too terrible considering. 20mph headwind on the southbound leg.

The 5.0 is proving a to be a workhorse handling the load of our 3 horse gooseneck really well. The more I use this combo the more I like it, no sway and really solid power. I know the eco might do it easier but this thing could so easily pull much more weight.

Forgot to add the tow/haul feature and it's engine braking function was equally impressive. When going down the covington hill on the way home very little extra braking was needed as the truck down shifted keeping the load in check as needed.

It's nice to hear some 5.0 towing feedback, all you seem to see is Eco performance. The 5.0 platform is slightly lighter netting more available payload and has larger displacement & compression providing greater engine-brake on the down grades. I know my Eco sucks for engine brake, I might as well drop into neutral and let it roll

I hauled my c10 back home to store over the winter. Trailer and truck was around 6500 lbs and my std cab 5.0 hauled it without issue. Going up i35 from texas to oklahoma it stayed in 6th probably 85% of the time and would down shift into 5th on the bigger hills. Averaged 15.8 mpgs going there and empty trailer back. This 5.0 engine has impressed me with its power!

There were some passing me but not many. Just posted as I was very happy with how she did at max rated towing.

True dat. Otherwise, the Eco is a towing beast.

I was very impressed with how well my 5.0 towed as well. That said, 18k is a lot of weight to be towing. Cummins are awesome.

I am guessing at his weight but it's pretty close as he had six horses aboard. The trailer has a huge front tack stuffed clear full, a rear tack clear full and full Mangers storage bunks. He has told me before that he is right at max and the trailer has an 18500 and change max weight. He pulled it for years with. 2000 chevy 3500 duramax and 99 f350 with a custom upgrade by a conversion company just for that kind of use. He says the cummins does it much easier.

Read your tow with interest. I am new to towing this much and worried the F150 not up for the TT we just purchased. I have the 5.0 with std. tow pkg, added the brake assist. I noticed that my Rear Gear is 3.31 and wondering what diff that makes.
2013 F150 Super Crew rated at 7100# , towing Rockwood dry 6388# . Equil-i-zer stabilizer hitch setup.
Have towed it twice and did not seem too bad. Just wondering if I should move to a 250 for towing this on a regular basis. Planning on going to FL next month and setting it up for the winter down there.

Last tow to WV. 32ft Rockwood Ultr Lite 2703ws
