Good campgrounds in Montana and Idaho
Planning on taking a trip from Alberta to Montana and then through Idaho and back up through BC, never been camping in the states before, anybody have any suggestions for good campgrounds in Montana and Idaho, planning on visiting Silverwood in Idaho.

There are awesome campgrounds in the National Forest Service areas in Montana. It is dry camping though. No electric.

I'm afraid that this time of year National Forest campgrounds will be closed. I believe KOA-type CGs will be your only option.
ETA: the more I think about it, many/most of the private land CGs will be closed as well for the winter season. It's likely that there will be some commercial CGs kept open in association with areas where there is mining or oil and gas activity going on. If you need hook-ups, best to thoroughly plan ahead. If you are largely self-contained, then you're home free, but you may have some difficulty finding a place to dump black and gray water; again, plan ahead.

The Many Glaciers campground in Glacier National Park is a great campground.

Well then, I'll x2 the National Forest Campgrounds. They are all over the Rockies and can be anything from bare bones/ back woods to paved sites.
And they have the best pit toilets I've ever seen.
I would start with http://www.recreation.gov/campgroundSearch.do
Enter "Montana" and "All" activities/facilities.
Then narrow that list by choosing "camping and day use".
I get 187 sites, mostly National Forest.

We’ve recently stayed at Priest Lake (Indian Creek Unit) and Farragut State parks in Idaho. Enjoyed them both. So much that we’re booked to return to Farragut next July.
Although I’d recommend both we preferred Farragut because:
The camp sites were spaced further apart;
It was a shorter drive to get to;
It was closer to towns (Hayden, Coeur d’Alene), not to mention Silverwood.
Priest Lake, however, had better beach access to the lake, and if you have a boat, better access for this as well.
